      This site is amazing!

      Hello all,

I discovered DV via a link in another forum (wish I could remember where/what but I don't) and I have to say, it was a great find.

I am 22 years old, and have been having problems with night terrors for more than a decade now. I sleep and have very vivid and very terrible dreams quite often. My good dreams are really good, but they are far outweighed in number by the bad. Over the years I have done different things to try and combat my "issue" but with limited success - a bit of counseling, sleep aids, sleep-state testing, etc.

A therapist suggested I look into lucid dreaming, she wasn't knowledgeable on the subject and wasn't sure about the validity of it's merits. With a little digging I found sites which touched on the subject, and I began to use simple reality checks during the day, asking myself "am I dreaming right now??" when I moved from one room to another, looked at my hands, read something, etc.

Then - boom. I was dreaming once, and asked myself if I was dreaming right now... and I looked around in the dream and I was like - YES! I am dreaming right now.... and it was great - I won't give details because this is a family-oriented forum, as well as I can tell

I am interested in gaining more control in my dreams as a method of combating my sleeping issues, which over the years have made it very difficult for me to want to go to sleep, leading to a self-induced insomnia which really affects my ability to rest, work, maintain a schedule, etc. This forum is a goldmine of information.

I just want to say thank you, and I look forward to keeping everyone posted about progress!

      Hi! Welcome on board!

You say a therapist suggested you try lucid dreaming???
I am pretty excited about that, maybe you can give her our address so she can recommend more people.

I've always advocated lucid dreaming for solving issues in the subconcious, please let me know personally if I can help. It is always fascinating.

In fact, I'll even make myself available to your therapist as a resource if she has any questions.
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

I wish I could remember her name, but it was a long time ago... and I'm not good at remembering names If I can figure it out I'll definitely point her in this direction, though, I'm sure she would really like this site - right up her alley. She had an MD but was far more interested in natural solutions to mental issues than medical ones - treating the problem vs the symptoms.

I'm still not sure why I dream the way I dream, but until I work out whatever bugs my subconscious... yeah.

Man, I'm actually thankful in a way, because so many people hear about lucid dreaming but I'm starting to realize that there is so much to it, I'm happy I stumbled upon it in the way I did. And I have my entire life to progress
