The excitement will die down after a bit...this is normal.

When falling asleep, you can try to induce sleep paralysis on purpose to get to sleep faster. If you're just going to bed for the first time of the night, you're unlikely to get any dreams, but it can certainly help you to fall asleep. As for mantras, they're more of self-affirmations. It is suggested that you keep doing them even as you fall asleep, but if you can't manage it, don't worry about it. Even the mere act of chanting them through the day can improve your odds of becoming lucid.

Don't try too hard, as this can actually hinder your chances of having a lucid dream. Just have patience, and good things WILL come in time.
