      Sleep Paralysis?

Hey all. I'm new here and I think this website is really interesting and I had no idea there was such a big lucid dreaming community. I've known about lucid dreaming for a while (friends told me about it) saw the movie "Waking Life" etc. But I never really looked into until a few days ago. I just think its something so amazing I would be a fool not to have such an experience or mind state in my life.

Anyways I've been looking at methods, practicing RC's here and there, and writing down dreams here and there as well. I noticed that when I try to tell myself "I'm dreaming" (chanting) or affirmative thought or whatever it seems to keep me awake or any thought that I create consciously keeps me awake. So I decided Ill just let things flow naturally and its really hard not to interrupt with my conscious. Anyways I started letting things flow and I can't remember if I passed out or was just watching my thoughts when all of a sudden it felt like my eyes were rolling to the back of my head, everything was white but it felt good and I focused on that and all off a sudden I felt like a crazy vibration (like that of a massage chair) going from my legs all the way to the top of my scalp and when the vibrating got to my scalp and I think I started focusing on it too much along with picturing a guy with a knife standing over my bed causing some fear (from reading scary SP hallucinations) so I didnt want to turn over (I experience this on my stomach). After that I just opened my eyes because I think i ruined it.

So I'm not sure if it was SP or I just created all that or what not. If it was SP am I supposed to just let it flow and then I just enter a LD? I feel like I only got to that point because I concentrated on it when I caught myself falling asleep but I read youre supposed to just let it flow.

All I know is the mind is crazy thing! and I know very little about mine haha. Can anyone tell me if that was SP or have any advice.

      Welcome to DreamViews!

I think what you were experiencing was vibrations, which is a common occurence during the WILD technique, but I'm not well versed enough to tell you whether those coincide with SP or not. If you couldn't move (and were possibly feeling an irrational sense of fear), though, you were also in SP. I recommend you read through the tutorials section (as well as the archives folder in that forum) and look at as many of the WILD guides as is needed for you to understand that, because it sounds like you almost pulled the WILD techniques off without realizing it, and those tutorials should help you understand what you went through better than I can.

      Appreciate the reponse.

I will check out the tutorials on "WILDS". Hopefully it will lead me to a LD .

Lately since my DR has gone up I've had tons of off the wall dreams and I have yet to do a RC or realize im dreaming!

You could've indeed induced a false sleep paralysis. How long did it last? Normally, sleep paralysis lasts no more than a minute or two before you naturally enter a dream.

Also, you should probably write your dreams down every night, instead of just "here and there." Especially when just starting out. Also also, saying "I'm dreaming," while awake might be counter-productive. The purpose of practicing lucid dreaming is to differentiate dream from reality. Saying "I'm dreaming" while awake somewhat defeats that, since it seems you're relying on subconscious processes, as well. You could say something more specific, such as "I will realize I'm dreaming when ______," filling the ______ with stuff like "something strange happens."

Haha yeah, you're right. I try to write down all the ones I can remember when I wake up. Since I've been putting effort into LD'ing I wake up almost after every dream and I have class in the morning and I'm just too tired to write everyone down, every time I wake up. I'm gonna save my efforts for the weekend (besides RC's and writing dreams down) and hope I stop waking up after every dream lol.

I thought WILD dont work unless you wake up from sleeping before or during REM and then it will work... or at least that when SP works or works easier...

Yeah you're right and I've learned a few things through trial and error. hahaha. I'm sure an LD is not too far off. I've been practicing a MILD technique and this weekend I want to try a WILD

Once you pulled off a MILD. I am sure you can do a WILD with more ease... I mean the concept of... say wakin up falling back down visualizing a dream and then have ur mind take over as a lucid dream seems off... or even going to sleep wake up stay still and let your body fall asleep... and you'll dream instantly... like logging in into an online game... its hard to believe or even accept it which will cause you to fail at it without actually experiencing LUCID DREAMS first which MILD will do the trick, you'll get it eventually my 3rd day, I recalled 3 dreams, even picked a few sign for my Journal..... Movie.... dunno why but star wars reference was there... they got storm troopers too..... and Games...... Mu online was in my dream, and coincidentally I dreamt of eating rice and egg....... on the floor... when I look away and look back.. the tray was on the floor with just rice while the egg was on my bed which is right in front of where im eating... even though I had that "What" reaction I still didnt RC... and im late for class its 8am... and my mom's asleep and i even washed the egg and ate it since i dont want to waste and im hungry... and of course

      That's a false awakening without a RC/LUCID.........

Wait wait wait can I ask when you have FA, are you actually LUCID? And if you fail, will you actually LUCID and do your daily things?

But anyways I woke up and my mom made scrabbled egg.... and rice congee.... the rice part wasnt watery in my dream.. but the scrambled egg was the same...

HAHAHA lol..... oops my thread is messed up.
