      Hello everyone, first time posting:)

      Hey guys,

I was at a friends place for the night last night, we were having a party, and one of my friends came over and was all excited. So we were curious why (also was his bday) but he was overexcited, and he told us he had his first lucid dream. So then I thought what the cracker jack is a lucid dream? So he explained us as much as he could, and I was absolutely astonished. I didn't even know there was such a thing where people can do this stuff and control their dreams. So I basically spent alot of the night talking to him and hearing about some of this stuff and got really interesting and end up here. So I believe that I can do this, and I sure as hell want to.

Anyway one question though. I remember talking to an old buddy in the United States, and he said one night, he was in bed and he woke up, but he was completely paralized but he was still technically "dreaming". But in front of his bed he saw this black image sorta type thing, and fear overtook him, and eventually this image jumped on his bed and attacked him, then he woke up. But he was screaming while he did this. Now Im not too educated in this field I apologize for that, but for any of you experienced lucid dreamers, I was wondering if you knew what this is, and if this has anything to do with attempting with lucid dreaming. My friend also emphasized on this cause i talked to him, and he said that he read some people experienced that same thing, except the grim reaper would kill them, and they would wake up, but it seemed so real.

Anyway, thank you everyone, glad to be on the site and hopefully I'll get my LD in a couple of weeks

      Welcome to the site, G-man!

What your friend experienced may have been a false awakening (FA), something that's fairly common for lucid and non-lucid dreams. I'll leave it to the more experienced folks to tell you whether it's more common for people trying to LD to have one -- but they don't always involve being attacked by something.
