Slow down, mate. Punctuation is your friend.

Lucid dreaming is not widely known in today's society. There are naturals out there, but I'd wager very few of them know the extent of the power they possess. Many of these naturals assume that everyone is able to control their dreams. Most of the population, though, must learn this skill. Dream Views is the single largest community of lucid dreamers on the internet, but certainly not the only community. The rate at which a person learns varies greatly, as does the amount of effort each person needs to put into their lucid efforts. That said, just about anyone can learn how to lucid dream, and if most people stick with it, it is very possible to have lucid dreams on a regular basis. There are a few members of DV who have multiple lucids per night on a regular or semi-regular basis.

In short, though, most people have never heard of lucid dreaming. It is hard to tell exactly how many people already do it, but I'd wager only a small percent of the population are natural-born LDers.

In a nutshell...lucid dreaming has no respect it deserves, not in this day and age. Maybe if the world has ascended to more spiritual level then yes maybe it will be common place.

I've read that one out of five people have one a month. I don't really believe this to be true unless people simply do not remember them. I think for kids this may be true. I used to have lucid dreams regularly even before learning how to induce them intentionally. I think some people may be naturally predisposed to it based on personality and brain chemistry (neurotransmitter levels).

I keep waiting for lucid dreaming to catch on bigtime. I've been waiting for a dozen years, or so, and it still hasn't blown up the way it should. Any day now...

Not anytime soon while people have a stigma about even talking about your dreams. You are somehow weird to even talk about it. Also with a lot of people confusing lucid dreaming with the occult doesn't help things either. I only talk to my closest friends about it. People will judge you and think you're weird. We're also told our whole life that dreams our not important and do not serve any medical or spiritual purpose. Recent studies have shown REM dreaming to improve concentration and give you proper short term memory.

Back when I learned about lucid dreaming, I didn't think it was possible to induce it. Without effort, I acheieved about 5 lucid dreams in 12 months.
