      My first LD!

Hey all, I joined this site last year and have read many threads but this will be my first post. I started a dream journal last year, but I have really been slacking on it so far in 2010. However, last night my sleep pattern was really out of whack as I went to bed at 8:00pm (I normally stay up until 3:00am or so). I woke up at 4:00am this morning and couldn't fall back asleep until 8:00am. In this morning's sleep, I started a very unusual dream sequence. I experienced a very strange sensation physically, like an intense vibration, and visually things appeared to flicker in what seemed like a power outage. My dream sequence started with me waking up on the couch where I usually sleep. I had the same groggy feeling that I normally have when I wake, but as I moved off the couch my limbs felt like they wouldn't move for a few minutes. I tried moving, but I didn't get anywhere. For some reason, I checked the time on the cable box (a digital readout) like I do when I wake up every morning. It showed a digital time, which I can't remember, and I thought that was weird since in my dream I thought the power was out. It was all these things that led me to believe, while dreaming, that I was experiencing a lucid dream.

Once I was able to move around, I decided I would test out the lucid dream. The first thing I remember doing was telling myself that I wanted to talk to my late father. Then I was sitting in the living room of my parents' house with him and my mother. They were both sitting on the same couch and looked comfortable to me. They both appeared younger; I thought this because my dad appeared to have a more full head of hair. I remember asking him if he missed me, but I don't recall if he answered. I also remember having so many things I wanted to ask him, like if he was proud of me, etc. but I didn't find the courage to do so. The last thing I asked him was, "What's it like (to be dead)?" I remember feeling a sense that he couldn't answer that question and the dream sequence ended there.

Then I remember a new dream sequence beginning. I'm not sure if this was a continuation of the same dream or a completely new one. However, it began the same way with me waking up on the couch and the sense of a power outage. At first I thought I really woke up to a power outage but I again checked the time on the cable box and it showed a digital time. In this dream, I remembered the power outage scenario from my previous dream and I conceived that this too was a lucid dream. I did not have any loss of sensation in my limbs and so I immediately began exploring the dream world. I don't recall how I got there, but I remember standing with a young blond girl at one of the stores on one of the busy streets in town. Since I knew this was a lucid dream, I decided I would jump right into trying out flying. The girl and I embraced as if she was going to teach me how to fly. Then we began floating up directly toward a power line. We seemed to go through the power line but at same time we bounced off of it and continued our ascent. I remember kicking my feet below me with a complete sense of weightlessness, which was fantastic and exhilarating. We touched down on a vividly-colored tile roof and then continued floating. That was the end of the dream sequence and I awoke to check the time and it was just after 10:00am.

I am still so excited at having finally experienced a lucid dream, especially after sort of slacking and giving up. This really came out of nowhere for me, but the control I had in the dream was amazing. I am guessing the disturbance in my sleep pattern had a large part to do with why I had this LD. I am really hoping to have more now that I have started, because there are many things I would like to experience in my dreams. I am very happy, and impressed, that I was able to both talk to my dad and fly in my first lucid dream. Any feedback you guys can give me would be great - especially as far as techniques for having LD's more often now and perhaps lengthening the dreams as well. Thanks for reading!
