      Unhappy Frustrated but Determined

Hey everyone. I want to have a lucid dream so bad. I'm the kind of person that reads everything and gains all the information before trying something. Naturally, thats what I did. I found Dreamviews and was instantly hooked. I saw that step one was dream recall.
I've always been pretty good at recalling dreams but before last night, I honestly could not for the life of me remember the last time I remembered my dream. Last night I tried the technique where you constantly repeat phrases like "I will remember my dream" in my head. It worked. Here's where the problem comes in. When I experienced this dream, it was sort of like I wasn't there, like I was spectating it (this is very hard for me to explain so please, bear with me). It was also blurry and extremely hard for me to focus on anything. I honestly have very good memory, though( not sure if this relates to dream recall). I can always practice, though I'm a little discouraged since my relatives and one of my friends say they always dream vividly. I refuse to give up on something as glorious as lucid dreaming so please, do I just need practice? Also, sorry for the long read. Thanks.

I normally remember my dreams as blurry and not very detailed. I figured it's just bad recall. (and like you, my awake memory is pretty good) I had an extremely vivid dream 1 or 2 weeks ago, it looked very real during that first few awake hours. Now if I try to remember it, it's just like any other normal dream.
I don't even know what this means or how it helps, just figured I'd throw it out here lol.

Oh, and also, I think dreams where you spectate are normal, I've had quite a few before.
(I even had a recent one where I went from first person to third person without even noticing it, was kinda weird)

I didn't even dream last night. I must really suck at this.

Everyone dreams, just don't remember them. I think you are taking this too hard. Stop looking at your relatives and friend and concentrate on yourself. Everyone is different and thus won't have the same results

Yes, you just need patience and perseverance. Follow a discipline and wait patiently for results. If you get frustrated and impatient, that works against you by making it not fun for your subconscious. It becomes a chore that you are trying to impose on your subconscious. Just keep it light and fun. Reward yourself when success comes your way. But never punish yourself, and never get frustrated or impatient. Make it a game.

And it will work! Once you have a lucid dream you will have another challenge: how to have another one. And then another challenge: how to prolong the lucid dreams. Then: how to control them. It is a never ending journey. And it all starts from where you are. Enjoy the journey, don't be in a hurry for the destination. The destination is the horizon, you will never get there, all you have is walking step by step. Baby steps! Remember when you were trying to learn how to tie your shoes?

And your waking life memory will get way better as your dream recall does.

      Hi there everyone.

I’m a total newbie and I’m happy to know about others that are not so far from my level.

I’ve done lots of meditation before and I believe I could have experienced involuntary lucid dreaming a couple of times, but this is my first direct approach to the subject.

I am feeling kind of overwhelm for the amount of information available in this forum. I’ve already been through the tutorials and CAT seems to be a good place to start. I will check on BigFun’s search post.

Take it easy LizardTroop. It will be fun to follow four progresses as well as mines, given neither one quits.

Even the best of us can suffer periods where we have unvivid dreams, can't get lucid, or can't even remember the dreams. You'll get over it.

It is normal to have dreams where you are only a spectator. Third-person perspective dreams, or "movie dreams" where it feels like you're watching a movie. You can try to be more aware and present in your waking life, with the hope that it will carry over to your dreams.

If you are not remembering dreams when you wake in the morning, the problem could be your timing. Try waking up in the middle of the night to remember your dreams. Or, if that is too inconvenient, try shifting your sleep schedule a few minutes at a time until you find yourself waking directly from a dream.
