Just missed a chance at being lucid!

Last night, I had a dream that almost made me lucid, but it didn't work.

Earlier that night, before I went to bed, a relative of mine had to come over and 'babysit' us. She was sleeping overnight at our house. After I went to bed, I dreamt that we were still awake and we were about to go to sleep. In the dream, she said something like, "I'm going to have a lucid dream tonight so if you hear any noise from me in the middle of the night just know that I am dreaming, and sorry if I wake you up." The sad part was, I remember hearing her say "lucid", and I didn't really think about it. Upon waking up I thought, "Ugh! I was so close!"

Well I just wanted to share that with you, and if you want you can give me some feedback.

Talking about dream related things in dreams is a common dreamsign for many lucid dreamers!
So whenever you talk about dreams in real life, remember to do some reality checks!

Here's an idea to try. Use the word 'lucid' more regularly in common conversation. Its a synonym for the words: conscious, aware, clear and transparent (in the 'understanding' sense), sane, rational, etc.

Forceful use will be awkward and make you lucid to the utilization of the word. Any use of the word by others will be a stark reminder of your use of it and its relation to what you're attempting. It will be impossible to ignore if ever said in your dreams.

      Give it a shot.

I'll quote feist because it's so true. I've been on DV in a dream or at a LDing convention and the thought that I'm dreaming at that moment doesn't even enter my head. It's okay, though. Take that as progress (LDing is in your head!) and make sure to do a reality check when you're talking about LDing

Hey, it happens to most of us. Welcome to the club

I actually just missed becoming lucid during a nap yesterday. I was driving at night, and all of my interior lights went out, so I couldn't see any of the odometers, and the clock was displayed in reverse (like a mirror image of the clock). I thought I could be dreaming, but I sort of didn't want to admit it and I ignored it.

A dream I had a while ago, I saw someone else do a reality check, and I didn't become lucid

Anyway, the fact that you are having dreams about lucid dreaming I think is a good sign. Keep up whatever you are doing, but maybe turn it into a dream sign.

      Thanks you for the replies.

ExoByte: Thank you, I will try this.
      Amethyst Star: That's great! Thanks.
      louie54: Thanks.

Also, is it possible to turn DV into a dream sign? If it pops up in your dreams?

I had a dream recently where I saw one of my dream signs (one that is rather new, also), looked at it and thought, "Huh, I've been dreaming about those lately." And walked away from it without reality checking!

I've had this happen to me before! It gets really frustrating, too.

It is, I know! But I agree with everyone else on this... the fact that these things are appearing in your dreams is a very good sign. You're so close to having a full blown lucid dream!

I can't believe it! Is this what happened to you when you were first lucid dreaming?

Not really, back then. But, it's like my sign, now, that I know I'm about to have another LD soon. I start noticing things in dreams, and questioning things that are happening. Then I get moments of "pre-lucidity," where things remind me about dreaming. Usually I actually get a real lucid dream, following that

Your dream sign should really be anything that shows up in your dreams a lot. If you dream about coming to this site a lot, then yeah, you should probably reality check to it, however, it can still be your dream sign even if you don't dream about it often. For example, I use to reality check whenever I see a red car, but not because I dream about them but because it allowed me to do more reality checks during the day.

I hope this wasn't too confusing
