Can't wait to begin lucid dreaming

Well, it's 11:03 and in a few minutes i'll be going to bed. Any tips on beginning a lucid dream?

Last night I attempted lucid dreaming. I saw on 4chan that an easy way to induce a lucid dream is to lay there and not twitch. Supposedly, your body will paralyze itself and you will be aware that you're dreaming. So I tried it, and half way into it I began to hear strange and scary noises. I quickly moved to stop it. I've heard stories of people seeing things besides their bed, or entities entering their rooms. So any help will be appreciated

The "strange and scary noises" are a natural phenomenon when you're transitioning into sleep; it is nothing to worry about.

When your body paralyzes itself, this is called Sleep Paralysis (or, abreviated as SP as you will see on these forums a lot). Basically when you enter SP, this is your body going to sleep. If you trick your body into thinking you're asleep, it will go into SP and you will a lot of the time, enter a dream. This is called the WILD technique. (Wake Induced Lucid Dream) The noises you hear are all in your head, as are the hallucinations you mentioned. I had a freaky experience with SP this morning too. I couldn't move and I saw a very tall, dark figure leaning over my bed... So, while SP can seem scary, it's actually quite fun after a while. The sensations are amazing. I feel like my whole body is vibrating and being knocked around on the waves. Sometimes it's actually painful- I don't know if anyone else has ever had this, but I got it this morning in bed; it was like someone was trying to break my rib or something... (Don't let that scare you off- that's the first time it has ever happened to me )
Usually WILDing works best after 5-6 hours sleep. set your alarm after say 5 hours of being asleep, then get up and wake yourself up enough that you could fall asleep if you wanted too, but not so much that you fall asleep by acident. (It takes some experimenting to find the correct time to stay up, set your alarm etc. for you. Everyone is different.)

      Hope that was helpful.

Yes very helpful thank you . But i'm really turned off by the stories of things being by your bed. Probably the main reason why I keep stopping the SP. Do you have any certain steps you go through in order to obtain SP? Do you always hear the strange noises?

I never hear the scary noises that you described, but I usually here a static sort of sound, you know the one your TV makes when it's on a channel that has bad reception?
Don't be turned off by the scary stories, honestly, like I said, SP can be fun. I used to be scare dof it when I first started too. I'm a huge wuss. But I just decided to be brave and give it a go. Now the scary things don't scare me as much (because I know they aren't real), and the good things you get from it are really fun.

      My Personal SP Steps:

      - Set my alarm to go off 5 hours after I go to sleep.
      - I get up when my alarm goes off and go to the toilet, get a drink, read a chapter of a book. (This helps to wake your mind up a little)
      - I go back to bed, lieing on my back.
      - I relax. You know how sometimes your mind is just flooded with thoughts? If you have this issue, just let your mind clear itself, let your mind go through all those thoughts until it is clear. Just let it relax and wander.
      - Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes an hour. You just have to be relaxed, patient, and remember not to move to much. If you have to swallow, then do. Swallowing doesn't seem to have an effect on my SP. If you really need to scratch, you can, but beware it may ruin your progess.

Have fun. SP really isn't as scary as it seems. I find it fun and I'm a scaredycat.
When I do hear noises and what not, I find it very exciting personally.

Also, remember that everyone has their own method. You may have to do some method-tweaking to make it suit you.

When you induce sleep paralysis, do you keep your eyes open? Is it like an unfocused eye situation? Or eyes closed? The whole scary element does not sound worth it at all. Why would you put yourself through that? Yikes. Are the visions in your mind? Or like an actual signal from the eye? I really don't mean to go all scientific. It would just help to know. I have lucid dreamt several times before, but i have no idea how to make them happen. I've been reading but i haven't tried anything yet. I'd appreciate some help.

You keep your eyes closed, so they are viewed sort of in your head, almost like a dream.

Take a look at this link, Keenya. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=42271
It is a good WILD method.
I think people get a bit to caught up thinking the whole experience is scary. Honestly, the scary things aren't that likely to happen. The most common things that happen in SP are these awesome vibrations through your body, a floating sensation, rising sensations, quiet static noises and/or pretty colours/shapes in front of your closed eyes. It's quite fun.
The scary things actually aren't scary at all once you know that it is only SP.
Usually, if I tell myself what to expect, eg: Vibrations, floating, etc... I don't get the scary stuff. The thing that happened to me this morning was the only time anything scary has ever happened to me during SP. I guess it's a matter of positive thinking. If you're dwelling on the fact that it could be scary, then it probablly will be.

Which is almost always the case for me

But yeah I'll give a try tonight and see what comes out of it. I thought the WILD method turns into a lucid dream. Or is it all just shapes and colors and stuff? I've visited the thread you linked me too and found it very useful.

"At that point you will literally feel a wave of heaviness come over
the body. This wave takes about 5 seconds to complete, and when it's
done your body has fallen asleep. This wave is very odd feeling and
distinct, it's something you can't miss."

What happens if I move or twitch while that's happening? Will the whole process kinda terminate itself?

Im trying this in the morning. Tonight i'll be sipping cinnamon before i go to bed. Is that crazy? I heard it would work. I tried it last night and it seemed to help with dream recall. I have to say that cinnamon is much less threatening than mind invaders and paralysis :/ I'll try that too though. I'm at a point where my determination is surpassing all else. Really a wierd feeling. I'll let you know how it goes.

Eye movement will mess you up a bit. Keep trying! Twitching, etc. could happen but keep practicing. Sometimes I will go into SP and jolt awake at just the moment, like I've been shocked. Other times I will continuously wake up and re-enter SP while having false awakenings so I'm not sure which is which until I do a proper RC or leave my body. Totally a freaky way to go Lucid, but waaay worth it.

Question 1- Usually they turn into dreams. Often the images you see sort of morph themselves into a dream.. It's interesting.

Question 2- Twitching doesn't always destroy your progess, in fact, sometimes it helps, because there is actually a WILD method that involves twitching every few minutes so that your body thinks you are already in SP and dreaming. Sometimes it does ruin it however. Especially if you go into SP and get excited and move a little. Just keep trying. Eventually you will be able to sit pretty still.

Yeah I'm having a lot of trouble with keeping concentration! I was laying there and felt my body getting heavier and static-ier. I heard faint noises here and there and began to see these strange spirals which sort of looked like DNA, just flying around. But my body was feeling so weird, and I had HUGE trouble staying concentrated. I had trouble keeping my eyes closed they kept trying to open and my body would twitch here and there. Any idea what to do? Your tips are very helpful by the way guys!

Congratulations on your progress, what you have reached is an achievement!
It's really hard to sit still and not open your eyes at first, I know from experience. Try keeping your eyes rolled back in your head a little, sometimes that helps. The only thing I can say about the twitching is maybe doing some stretches before you try WILDing. This can help relax your muscles and stop you twitching and moving around.
Just keep trying. WILDing is a tough thing to achieve sometimes, but it is worth it. You're getting there!

ok well so I've tried this, pretty close to your exact schedule and such. I set an alarm for 6 AM, went to bed at 1. Got up and went to the bathroom, read some book. Anyway, i really had trouble overcoming doubt. I think it was about 20 minutes, but by that time i just didn't think it was worth it. I must admit i was very antsy to move, but you know, you would be. Is it the concept to not move even when i am really just done being still? I'm having issues with trust here. If this is gonna work at some point, i would love to get there. It doesn't seem promising though. I have taken cinnamon 2 nights last week, and it really helped with dream recall. Crazy? I think not. Maybe just positive thinking. Well im going to try WILD again tonight, but i really don't want to waste my time.

I'm pretty sure that it won't just work after a couple of tries. It takes a long time, as well as patience.

There will be nights that wilding will be very difficult for a variety of reasons, and then sometimes you'll be laying there for just a few minutes and are in SP in a snap. It isn't an exact science, keep it up. WILD is my favorite way to enter a lucid so it's def. worth it!
