What should have been my next step?

      Long, but I appreciate responses.

I've been trying to lucid dream for about a week now..anyway, my dream recall is quite bad but it's been getting better. Last night I took some melatonin (3mg) and tried to dild, failed, but had my alarm set at 7:45 am for work. Anyway, I woke up at 6:30 cause I had to go to the bathroom, so instead of staying up I figured I would try to do a wild. Here is what I remember: entering sleep paralysis then a series of false awakenings. Keep in mind I have never experienced a lucid dream from purposely trying or a false awakening but I've read about it. It was so real I got up to take my morning pills etc but then I woke up looked at the time and realized my alarm never went off! So then I went back to sleep. I remember I had another fa and this time remember to do a reality check and for my first time ever it worked. I pinched my nose and could breathe, then attempted to picture an outside setting. I immediately woke up from excitement haha. Before my alarm went off, I entered a dream where I was semi lucid talking to a kid I knew from way back on a school bus about a song.

As an experienced lucid dreamer, what would you have done at what point?

      Thanks.

I am no way an experienced lucid dreamer, but if i wanted to lucid dream i never would have taken any melatonin, and when i realised I was dreaming i would explore my surroundings and make sure i am not waking up first thing.
when i have a lucid dream the first thing I will do isorder a pizza.

      PIZZA
      pizza is sacred.

I am not experienced, but first I would examine the surroundings and make them more vivid. I think that before having fun in a lucid dream, you should practice control and make it more vivid, so read some tutorials on increasing dream vividness. Then, do absolutely anything. Really.

I know to try and increase vividness etc. I just want someone with experience to tell me how they would have gone about going into complete lucidity. Practice like the pros.

You were doing the right thing. It can be confusing when you get a string of false awakenings, like that. Good job recognizing it was a dream. As people have already mentioned, try to connect with the dream world physically. Do something that involves your sense of movement and touch. Really solidify your awareness in your dream body.
