      Short term memory loss?

      Anyone suffer from this?
I never used to, not until recently, i think i've had it for a while, but now people are pointing things out to me, it's more apparent.

Things like: asking what day of the week it is, the date. And then forgetting, and asking it again two hours later.
Getting the day of the week totally wrong.
muddling dates and times up, also appointments.
the scariest thing happened the other morning, when i woke up, and couldn't for the life of me work out a) where i was, b)who i was, or c) what the hell i was supposed to be doing that day, whether i had a job, and if i did, what was it, and was i meant to be there?
and the other night leaving my egg poaching pan on the gas hob with an inch of water in it, luckily i went back out there to do something and found it, otherwise the whole place could've gone up...

I keep making these little slips, and i've noticed it more over the last week, my mates are pointing it out to me, i don't even realise i've done it till they tell me.

Not under any particular stress, i eat right, and i sleep well.

      so what's going on?

when a friend says, 'hey, liz, i told you that already' or 'today's friday liz...not tuesday'
      that's when i feel a bit weird.

and it's not once in a blue moon, it's every day...

      just wondering what others think...

I'm thinking it's probably just a phase. My short term memory is often <--- at times. Give it time and if it doesn't get better then you can see someone. Otherwise, it's most likely temporary.

Im the king of short term memory loss, i forget things within 5 seconds - i think i only hear what i want to hear and disregard the rest (lol).

I once fell asleep with candles around my bed, then woke up with my bed totally engulfed with flames, i thought it was just a really cool vivid nightmare until i realised that the flames were real, i put them out while still half asleep and burnt my foot (lol).

Absent Mindedness is my middle name.

Holy crap! Well, at least it was an accident for you. My mom's brother once lit a pile of leaves on fire and told her to stamp it out.... she was barefoot at the time.

If its getting worse, I would go see a doctor. I mean seriously, short term memory is the first to go. You could have Alzheimers or something. Or you had a concussion and forgot about it. If its not diet or sleep it could be serious.

I agree with Alric. If it were me, I'd go see a doctor (if for no other reason than to ease my mind).

"Midnight Oil", i will have to check that out!

I know its not directed at me but I aint going to the doctors to say i have bad memory (lol) Doctors would prob put me on medication that totally takes away my memory. I think the problem is with small things that i try and avoid (not the fire thing that was a one off) like remembering to go shopping and get food (lol).

Although there's a chance that it might be a 'phase', it still sounds like a pretty serious problem you are having right now.

If nothings really changed in your life and you are experiencing this... go see a doctor. Better to be safe.

haha, phase? In my case i just grew into it.. its so bad I have to write things everywhere.. i used to carry a palm, just to write shit down. I can't remember ANYTHING like that.

On the other hand.. my long-term memory is highly developed.. to such a point where the most miniscule details are recalled.. I still have most of my old LD's from years ago in my memory (i used to have hundreds). My long-term memory goes back to when I was 2.

That happens to me all the time. I'll ask someone what the date is then write the wrong date on my paper then ask what it is again and they will say "i just told you." And i will say "Oh, I don't remember" It scare's me

What really worries me is you said its getting worse and its pretty bad if you forgot who you where once, and don't even notice you forget stuff without someone telling you. Its really bad if others notice it before you.

One thing you don't mess around with, is problems with your brain. If you see things, black out, or have memory loss, go to a doctor.

It varies with me. Sometimes I can't remember things for more than 5 seconds, then other times I have a perfect memory and can recite word for word whatever it is. The hardest thing for me to remember are bunches of numbers, eg like in history - 1674, I can't remember dates like that.

      You're just too silly!

I have a hard time remembering dates but am even worse with people's names. I can be introduced to someone and a minute later I couldn't tell you their name if my life depended on it.

I can't remeber names either. Well if I say it to myself like 20 times in a row while looking at them and then I see them a few times over the next few days I normally remeber. What sucks though is they tell you their name once and you forgot it, then like 6 months later you still have no clue what their name is because they never said it a second time. Then you really feel bad, known someone for 6 months but don't know their name heh.

No one ever notice though, which is why I can get by for 6 months without knowing. Where I get caught is someone else goes "hey have you talked to jack?" and then I am like "who?"

I think i've figured out what's causing it, a combination of things.
Too much running around after other people, and working too hard are the main factors i think.
Add to that i don't drink enough water, so dehydration is probably making my brain go fuzzy...
