I think this goes in the entertainment section.

Anyway, some of the best Animes around are Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, as well as Ghost in the Shell.

However, I have a thing for slice of life animes, like Lucky Star (yes I watched that and liked it) and K-On (which I haven't finished yet).

If you do like Slice of Life animes, you might want to look at The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's part SoL and part Sci-fi. There's also a specific order you have to watch the episodes in...which can be confusing at first.

Other than that, my favorite anime is Elfen Lied. I own the DVD (unfortunately it didn't have the OAV on it) and I've read all the manga, which they are two very different stories.

I've watched most of the Miyazaki films and they were all pretty awesome. Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky and Nausicaa are my favourites.

I watched the Ghost in the Shell film but didn't rate it particularly. Kinda incoherent... not much point... not much story... bleh.

Its a really hard choice, however my favorite anime is Angelic Layer. I am a real sucker for stories where the hero goes up against impossible odds and fights their hardest to win.

Movie-wise, Paprika and Spirited Away are pretty epic. In terms of shows, I haven't seen a whole lot, but I enjoyed Girls Bravo, which was very funny and definitely NSFW. Clannad is supposed to be pretty good, too.

Deathnote is a really good anime. It slows down a bit closer towards the end and drags a bit. Though its totally worth putting up with a few slower episodes, because it has one of the best endings for any anime I have ever seen.

Elfen Lied is pretty good, though before you get into it, you do need to note its one of the bloodiest shows there are.

Defnitly Elfen Lied, it's the best. I tried watching some other anime's but got bored after like the 2nd part of one episode or after a few episodes if it looked promising.

I personally didn't think Death Note slowed down near the end in the MANGA version, (maybe in the middle-towards the end, but not the last couple editions.) But this is about the animes, isn't it? I recommend Paprika one hundred and ten percent. Also, AKIRA. But also read the manga. Both versions are good and the director of the one is the writer for the other. But they both tell different stories and have different themes so are both worth it.

Trigun is also highly entertaining and had me enthralled after just a few episodes. The manga and the anime are completely seperate this time, (the manga is techincally the sequel,) so unlike all of my other examples I will not say, "The manga is also a must read along with it!" for tri-gun.

It sounds like you'd like Gurren Lagann then. That's practically the premise of the show.

Anyway my favorite, hands down, is FLCL. Followed closely by Samurai Champloo.
