couldn't agree more Noog, the first one is obviously a disgrace to music.

Oh yeah, insane, pretentious douchebags exist. Boo frickity hoo.

Instead of constantly complaining about where music is going, people should make their own music and fill the void. Or do SOMETHING productive.

I just picked up Fruity Loops. I'm still a complete amateur, but I've made some interesting drum lines and part of a synth thingy.

      Let me correct this statement:

What is the perception of Christianity coming to?

Christianity isn't subjective. It's all in the Bible. The Ku-klux-klan can maraude about with crosses all they want. That doesn't make them Christian.

Now music, music is subjective to a degree, and so it changes with culture. Therefore, when people start making rediculous things and calling it music, it's depressing. The modern cacopahny that people are calling music is simply pathetic.

      Like this:

Pretend to enjoy if you will, but we both know you don't.

It has no substance, no emotional or orderly value. Sure, it apparently has some kind of complex rhythym to it, but what's the point if you can't tell the difference between it, and a restless sleeper rolling about on the piano?

Modern popular music is extremely pathetic. It is not even about sounding good. It is all about image. It is so shallow.

Deery, very few people have the musical talent to parallel the golden ages.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

John Cage was a talented musician with many points to tell. You've made one of his, I think.

He was an impressive mathematician as well, and made plenty of art from it.

He died before either of us were born, as well.

Um...yeah. I'm pretty sure that video was never intended to be a serious musical production. Comedy production, perhaps, but certainly not any definition of music.

I used a plural term. There have been several golden ages of music, and every major genre has had at least one. The golden age of classic rock, which I consider the absolute peak of musical history, began in the 60's and ended in the 70's. When would you say music was at its best?

The 80's had some stellar hits. And independent artists today put out some sweet stuff, too.

I like the Beatles and some Elvis and even a couple of other artists but that's about it for me and 60's music. But I can't judge because I didn't grow up in the 60's or the 70's. I do like the 80's(MJ fan first and foremost) but I consider best music in the early 90's(it sorta dropped off with Boy bands and what not in the late 90's. Not to say I didn't watch them but I didn't like them too much.) I like a few 2000's songs but not enough to say its my favorite decade for music.

So you like The Beatles but not 90s boy bands? What do you think The Beatles were? They put out 27 albums in 8 years. If you saw someone do that today, you would just think they weren't putting any work into them. What made The Beatles so different? Most over-hyped band ever...

I guess with that rationale it would be true. But you can't seriously be comparing Boy bands of the 90's to the Beatles can you. Its your opinion but I have to disagree with you. Beatles had hits after hits (I think they have record for most #1's on billboard not sure though) plain and simple they rocked and I didn't even grow up in the 60's. I listen to boy bands but it was more of a passing trend(everyone in school listen to them but a month later they were forgotten until the next big hit) then anything else really. Yeah this just my opinion. If you like boy bands so be it. I just believe there no where near "Beetle-Mania".

I love all sorts of music from various years, as well as some chants and instrumentals (especially the flute).

One of my favorites today is Jason Mraz.

Not to sound racist in any way, my son asked a question the other day and I can't quite get it out of my head.
How is it a person can almost always tell whether a singer is white or black? I told him black singers tend to have more "soul" in their singing. Then I thought they tend to harmonize more or rely less on instruments... but looking at Jazz, that's definitely not the case all the time.
      What's the right answer?

I don't think music is doomed. I love a lot of current songs.
But I do wish melodies could be more original. Sometimes a song will begin and I'm certain something else is about to play because the notes are so similar. I guess only so many combos and variations are possible, though and some overlap is inevitable.

Well one of the members did die you know. Please Britney Spears has musical ability but it aint no Beatle material besides the Beatles paved the way to many great artists. I don't recall Backstreet boys or Nsync or even Britney Spears having paved anything actually. The Beatles aren't even my favorite band but I love their music.

27 albums? You must be including a lot of compilations and import versions. The Beatles came out with about two albums per year. They were workaholics who lived and breathed music, and they stopped doing concerts in 1966, though they performed the Rooftop Concert in 1969. They did not jack around and record a bunch of filler. They were possibly the most dedicated and serious musical act there has ever been.

The Beatles were not even close to being a boy band. Synchronized dancing was not part of their act, they played their own instruments, they wrote their own songs, and they were a rock and roll act. They eventually had long hair, facial hair, and hippy clothes. John Lennon was king of the hippies. Many of their songs had extremely deep lyrics, much of which was surreal. The Beatles also were more inventive and influential than any other musical act ever. What boy band ever invented something as phenomenal as what we now call classic rock?

First time am actually agreeing to what your saying. I totally agree and to me boy bands were like fading trend rather then real music career. Just my opinion.
