cat meeting older cat... Vicious fights..

Howdy, I have an issue... I've had my cat Misty for 4 years now and we added another cat to the family home. they are both girls and the other cat is 10 months old. Misty is a mix breed of who knows what and lilly ( the new addition ) is a pedigree birman. the pedigree is happy to make friends but my older cat misty pounced at her like she was a mouse... we had to separate them and i don't know what to do?! and im not getting rid of either...

I usually let my cats duke it out so they can establish their alpha order. But with your kitten being so young, I'd agree that you should keep them separated. I've heard people sometimes use leashes to introduce pets to each other. If one gets aggressive, you just pull them back... How about squirting Misty with water? I have a slew of cats and kittens. They used to be inside/outside cats, but now they stay outside all the time. Some of them don't get along. Some of the cats never took to some of the kittens and they would fight if the kittens got too close- but only a couple swats and then one or the other would leave. Is Misty spayed?
