A lot of times when you enter chat, you are welcomed by ninjabot. Ninjabot is a complex artificial intelligence program that hangs out in chat. While she doesn’t have commands per-ce, she had some features that not very many people know about until they stumble onto them, so that’s why I’m writing this operator manual.
Natural Language
Ninjabot was specifically designed to never use keywords to trigger responses. Keywords require that you remember them, where as anyone can express what they want in english. Ninjabot understands simple sentence structure as well as some more advanced language constructs that other bots can’t do. She understands the concept of synonyms and antonyms. She knows that LD and Lucid dream both mean the same thing. She also knows that words can have multiple meanings and that the meaning depends upon context. She understands that DS, for example, can mean Dream Sign, or Nintendo DS. She also understands abbreviation, because she lives in an IRC chat, where no one uses proper spelling or grammar, she had to learn how to understand all of the abbreviations and will even use them herself. She can even understand simple misspellings.
Lucid Dreaming
Ninjabot knows a lot about lucid dreaming. She is by no means an expert, but she is able to answer simple questions about lucid dreams and direct you to additional resources if she can’t answer your question herself.
Example:
<ninja9578> how do a wild during a nap?
<ninjabot> To Wake Induced LD during a nap, you simply lay comfortably and keep your mind awake
Calculator
Ninjabot has a very powerful calculator. She knows hundreds of functions ranging from simple arithmetic, to advanced statistics, trig, and calculus. She understands most weird little quarks of most functions (including imaginary numbers) as well, so she’s almost always right, she will only have problems with certain discontinuous advanced functions.
She is sometimes particular about the format that you use when asking her a math question, but she’s getting better, and will tell you if you ask incorrectly.
She understands and can convert most units. She can do advanced math with different units (as long as they are compatible.)
Examples
<ninja9578> ninjabot solve 1 + 1
<ninjabot> 1 + 1 = 2
<ninja9578> whats ln(-e) * sqrt(-2)
<ninjabot> ln(-e) * sqrt(-2) = -4.44288294 + 1.41421356 i
<ninja9578> whats 5oz + 120g in pounds
<ninjabot> 5oz + 120g in pounds = 0.577054715 pounds
<ninja9578> whats 15c in F
<ninjabot> 15c in F = 59 degrees Fahrenheit
<ninja9578> solve 15 gallons / second * 20 meters / picosecond * speed of light
<ninjabot> 15 gallons / second * 20 meters / picosecond * speed of light = 3.40451371e20 m^5 / s^3
<ninja9578> solve $150 / oz in euro / gram
<ninjabot> $150 / oz in euro / gram = 3.73664851 Euros / gram
<ninja9578> solve $150 in japanese money
<ninjabot> $150 in japanese money = 12789.9045 Japanese yen
Games
Ninjabot has a host of games that she runs if you get bored.
The most popular being russian roulette. Russian roulette is a game with 1 bullet in a 6 chamber gun. Say roulette, and ninjabot pulls the trigger.
She hosts a rock paper scissors game too. Just say rock paper scissors, then the item that you are playing. Ninjabot will respond with her own selection and tell you the results.
Ninjabot has dice too, she can throw one or two of them depending on what you ask her to do.
Ninjabot has a coin that she can flip. Useful for deciding things.
World Clock
Ninjabot has a powerful time module, which knows the time anywhere in the world (within reason.) She knows all major cities and capitals. This can be useful for talking with other DV members who live across oceans. We all know how hard it is to sync communication among people across the world, but ninjabot can help by doing time conversions for you. Just ask what time it is in the location you want.
Searching
Ninjabot can search in youtube and google (and more to be added.) These are more like commands than natural language recognition. Just say:
ninjabot google something
And ninjabot will give you a link to the results. Saves a little bit of time opening the browser.
Weather
Ninjabot know the current weather situation in every major city in the world. She uses the internet to get the latest conditions. She also knows the weather on various bodies within our solar system.
Translation
Ninjabot is multilingual. Her current translation functionality is pretty limited, but she is getting more and more powerful all the time. Ninjabot does her best to do this using natural language, but because there may literally be multiple unrelated sentences in multiple languages, she may struggle.
The most efficient ways to do a translation are
ninjabot translate je parle francais
ninjabot translate hello world into german
But she will also identify more natural queries such as “whats mardi gras mean?” or “what is good morning in japanese.” Notice that by default, she will translate into english, so you do not have to specify that.
Ping
Sometimes if you are away from your computer, you may notice, when you come back, that someone has said your name, but you might not know where. if you ask ‘who pinged me’ ninjabot will PM you who said you name, what they said, and the context in which it happened.
Other Rooms
Ninjabot joins #DV when she logs in, but you can tell her to join other rooms. If you need her to come into a room with you, just PM her, telling her to join it. Remember that IRC chat room names begin with a # character.
Private Messages
Ninjabot will respond to you if you PM her, if you are doing homework and using one of her features try to PM her instead of flooding the main room.
