Has anyone seen this commercial? About American debt

My Father always talked about how China is going to own us one day, and today I just saw this on television on AMC channel.

      I think it's a bit funny.
      Thoughts?

Honestly Americans should worry about personal debt more than public debt. They're pretty pro at racking up the credit card bills.

If that is the future of China, I don't mind being owned by them.

Then again, I'm in the EU.

Just more right wing Americans thinking they know best.
Government owned things are good. To a limit.
Water, gas, electricity etc should all be government owned.
You should have public health insurance. Full stop.
Get over it. Pay a few dollars extra in your tax for the good of everyone.

The joke is on China. They already own all that debt but they can't do anything with it. They can't cash it in because we don't have the money to pay. They can't sell the debt to anyone else because no one wants it. They are basically stuck holding a bag full of worthless IOUs from the US. Their only real hope is to hope US bounces back and eventually their investment becomes worth it.

Its been known for years that China could probably dump all the debt and crash the US economy, but they have not. Mostly because they would loss all that money and really hurt themself in the process.

The hilarious thing is that Americans apparently take this advert seriously and it 'scares' them.

OH NO THE EVIL CHINKS ARE LAUGHING AT US THIS IS THE WORST THING.

When our public debt is near 100% of our GDP, I think we should be worrying about that as well.

But it seems to be the American way, multiple mortgages and only paying the minimum dues!

Well if anyone wants a sign of the times, reconstruction of the world trade centers' is being financed by the chinese government. They don't want an ROI, they simply said once the new buildings are constructed, they would like to have the very top floors for themselves. The US gov. agreed.

And no, China wont dump all of our debt. It's possible but unlikely. The two countries are dependent upon each other in more way than I can list.

Yea much worse than the run away inflation that will destroy our economy and make any money we do own worth less than the paper it is printed on. Which is what everyone knows is going to happen eventually. There is no other way to pay off the debt, besides devaluing our money.

      "Spending"
      "Taxing"
      "Changes to HealthCare"

Such a right-wing ad lol. I can't say I agree to any of it. You know, spending puts money into peoples pockets which recycles, the government then taxes it to bring in revenue to pay for school and law enforcement and such, and we need to do something different about our f_cked health care system. But apparently, we shouldn't be doing any of that.

It wouldn't surprise me if this happened however. The corporate people got too greedy and sent out jobs over there to save money. The Chinese should be thanking them.

Sure, let's leave this country alone and see what happens. I'll be more than happy to pack my bags and say good bye to #2.

Sarkozy Said to Plan Plea for China Investment to EU Rescue Fund

Sarkozy’s plea to his Chinese counterpart would come the day before a planned visit to Beijing by Klaus Regling, chief executive officer of the EFSF, to court investors.

The EFSF said Regling’s visit to China this week is linked to the fund’s original debt-issuance role.

How to save a country from poverty: Make them slaves.

I've seen it before. I'm not afraid of China becoming more economically prosperous than us, I'm more afraid of their economic "progress" being based primarily on fossil fuels. While the Western world is FINALLY starting to do something about carbon emissions, the Eastern developing economies like India and China are becoming the new primary sources of carbon emissions.

China's economy (as of now) is reliant on the West; they are a huge exporter. Without us, they wouldn't be doing what they are doing as well as they are doing it. And without them, we wouldn't have extremely "affordable" (cheap) goods with which to occupy our time and "money."

Cheap labor and production are why the standard of living in the West is so much higher. If we were all paying a FAIR price, most of us would still have one television per home, we wouldn't have a new cellular device every two years, and we'd probably be much more frugal. If you buy all-American goods (which is damn near impossible anymore) you'd be spending much more, thereby consuming much less. Thank China for our standard of living.
