If you had a death note would you use it?

My friend and i got into a debate about death note (yes we have no lives) we were discussing would we have the balls to use it. Honestly i'd think i'd use it knowing the side effects about heaven and hell (if you believe in heaven and hell), i would love have the power Kira had i would change the world for the better.

Question is would you use a death note if you came across one?

I've thought about this, and no, I don't believe I would. I don't believe in the death penalty, and the death note is kinda limited.

Also, the first one is better.

It's a mystical notebook from the 'Shinigami' (Death god) realm. If you write someone's name in it holding the image of their face in your mind, that person will die in the next 40seconds. If you don't specify a cause of death he will just die of a heart attack.

Anyways, if I ever find a death note I would burn it.

I've killed someone with a death note before. Back in my old computer science class in 12th grade, some friends and I were joking about it and opened up a black notebook and wrote down the name a mutual friend who was also in that class but not part of the conversation. Seconds after I finished writing down his name and saying "ha ha ha ha" he clutched his chest and yelled "My heart!", then collapsed forward on to his keyboard.

He wasn't actually dying, he's just melodramatic and he happened to feel a weird pang right at that second lol. Probably the best thing that ever happened in that class.

Anyway, I think I'll have to agree with keeping it but not ever intending to use it.

I didn't watch the anime, I read a bit of the manga but I watched all the movies.

A death note is a notebook. If you write someone's name in it while you think of their face, they will die of a heart attack 40 seconds later. If you want, you can specify how they should die, where they should die, what they should do before they die and when they should die. If it's physically possible it will happen that way.

Sort of, except using the Deathnote turns you into a Shinigami/demon when you die and you have to spend the rest of eternity in a barren wasteland. So it's a bit of a sacrifice.

I'm not really a fan of anime but I think most people would be hard pressed to dislike Death Note after watching a few episodes. Western animations need to raise their standards and stop dumbing down the material.

That's sorta the point of the show: You can't use this sort of power only for good, no matter your intentions. To quote Orwell, "Power corrupts, and absolute powers corrupts absolutely."

That's never stated in the show, as far as I can recall. Didn't Ryuk just say "A human who uses the death note can't go to either heaven or hell"?

But yeah, Light really dropped the ball at the beginning of the show. There was no reason to go after L, and if he hadn't L would have no way of finding out who he was. Everything after that was damage control.
