Where do you live?

I'm in Utah, and if I remember correctly, you're over in the East, so I'm kinda left out. We haven't had a quake here in Utah for several years. The last time we did, I was asleep...

I dont think so I might of been asleep but Ive slept through bigger earthquakes than that.

I noticed this morning that the USGS.gov site posted the quake after I went back to bed.

Small one, about 3.8 located about 40 mile to southeast from me in a small town named Hot Springs, NC http://earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqsUS/Qua...akes/usceaf.htm

Cool, we only get one of these every 10 years on the average. Estimated intensity at my house was 3.

We actually have probably had minor ones (about 1 intensity) that we don't even know about!!

Where in Utah are you? I'm in Clinton right next to the Wal-Mart they just put in.
I'm glad I'm not too close though. The people next door to it have to board up their windows to sleep at night because they keep the lights in the parking lot on all the night.

Ouch! That must be hard, but not as hard as on the 24th of July...b/c my neighbors keep the racket up until midnight, & that is disturbing when I am trying to WILD!

Davis County. It's about a half an hour north of Salt Lake

So, you must live close to Lagoon! Cool!.. I also live 1/2 hour from Salt Lake City, except going south! & Splash lives 15 mins away from my house!

Seeker I was too far away to feel your earthquake I think. I think if FL had an earthquake it would just sink into the ocean OR it would be like a quake in San Francisco . You know they almost sank into the ocean, right? hehe



I have been through many many earthquakes. My last one was very small back in December I think. I happened to be sitting on the toilet at the time *tee he he* and I started to feel dizzy and then I realized it was an earthquake.

I have always thought there was something exciting about this particular natural disaster. I have been scared before but excited at the same time. Yup I'm a sicko....

Anyway, we get lots of small-medium ones here in Utah every few years, but we're supposedly a few hundred years overdue for a huge one. But then, you've gotta read between the lines a bit. Earthquakes are realatively predictable occurances, but that doesn't make the predictions accurate relative to OUR time system. We've past the average length of time between earthquakes, but that average time can be anywhere between 1,000 and 10,000 years off or something. Still, it might be exciting to have one that big here.

I don't think its that long. I can't remember exactly how long...I'd have to look on the internet. My Utah History teacher is crazy, but all he ever does is talk about a mega earthquake in Utah. And ya know, thats what they were telling our parents when they were in school. But I guess since its been so long it could happen soon. And I live pretty close to the fault, but not on it like all these big houses build right on top of it.

Yeah, some people are pretty crazy to build their homes where they do. I live not too far from the fault (I could bike there in a few hours). I mean, my house likely won't be standing if we get an earthquake of the size they're predicting, but there are people actually building their houses on the loose soil halfway up the mountain! Not rocks, but loose gravel. There's a song from sunday school that comes to mind. "The foolish man built his house upon the sand"..."and the house on the sand washed away" Still, I wonder what they're thinking. I mean, most of them didn't do it for the view--all there is to see from where their houses are is a large pile of slag from the mine next to 'em. *sigh* People really are crazy.
