      Body Modifications

I'm wondering what everyone here thinks of body modification. This includes tattoos, piercings, scarification, branding, sub-dermal implants, cosmetic surgury, etc.

I myself have a few piercings. I have my lobes pierced, and my bottom lip pierced twice.

Honestly, I didn't get my piercings for any other reason than I thought they would look good. And I think they do. I plan on getting another set of holes in my lobes, and then my helix on each ear.

I do plan on getting at least one tattoo some time soon, but I haven't for lack of funds. I have to spend my money on a few other more important things first (like a new computer ;P), but this is more or less what I want:

I'm not a big fan of most other body modification practices, though. Scarification is pretty much just tattooing, without the color. And sub-dermal implants are just plain ugly (just makes people look lumpy). I'm very aware I'm being extremely contradictory to what I just said about my piercings, but I think cosmetic surgury is stupid. I don't even really have a good reason for it.

I would, however, be the first one in line when cybernetic enhancements are hip. I could definitely dig having some nanites to fill my lungs, generating oxygen so I can run a mile on a single breath of air ;D

It has about the same amount of meaning as \"The Artist Formerly Known as Prince\"'s little symbol. It's just something I use to identify myself as Nomad. I've tried to cook up all sorts of meanings for it, but it all is just a bunch of philosophical garbage. It just looks neat ;P

Cool topic I always love talking about this stuff and most people with modifications like to talk about it. I have one tattoo on my foot. Three flowers right above my toes. It is very modest and cute I have three pirercings in each ear. All three are guaged piercings and I think I would like to get one more. I used to have pictures of these things but... now I don't and I'm just too lazy right now to take more.

This is one tattoo I would like to get but I don't think I have the guts

I have been craving a tattoo lately... Its true what they say, "Once you have one you want more and more!"

What guage? All four of my piercings are 14g, and were pierced at that. The next set of lobes, and the helixes I'm getting are going to be 14g as well--I want, more or less, all of my jewelry to be interchangable. It's easier to find stuff that way ;P

Eh... Everyone has wings. Well, not really, but you know what I mean. Personally, I think that getting the wings on the back of Rinoa (of FF8)'s jacket would be cute. Not on me, of course. Big, elaborate wings tend to often look gaudy--especially if they aren't done all in one session. That's what I think, anyway. To each his-or-her own

In my bottom two ear piercings I have one hoop going through both holes. I believe it is gauge 14. The top hole is a 16 I think. I want to go up to an 8 on my first piercing because I found cool earrings. I think that is the biggest I will ever go though. My sister had 8 gauge earrings and now wears regular ones.

Anyway... thanks for the wing tattoo input. I probably wont get this big tat anyway... was just dreaming about it.

I have a tiny lightning bolt on the top of my left arm, and i've got my ears pierced, but i rarely wear earrings...
I'd like a slightly bigger tattoo somewhere else, but i haven't decided where, or what. I know it needs to be somewhere i can see it!! Maybe just above my right ankle...but what i don't know..i was thinking some kind of celtic knot.

I personally love tattoos on other people, they are a great talking point, and some of them are great works of art too!!

I totally forgot about that... I am going to get a boob job it's just a matter of when I am going to have enough money. I would also like to have a tummy tuck but I figure I will wait till after I have kids to do that. I would also love to have my eyes fixed too. Freedom without the contacts!!!

As long as it makes you fell better about yourself right??

I've had my ears pierced since I was in elementary school but in 2003 my husband, son and I went to visit his parents in New Mexico and we all got tattooed (including his MOTHER).

It was a bonding experience to say the least! My mom-in-law got a butterfly on her ankle, my husband got the state symbol for New Mexico (a circle with rays) on his upper arm. My son got his name in Kanji on his upper arm and I got a black 2 inch tribal/celtic/aztec quarter moon type design on my upper thigh..

Did it hurt.. I say YES my son and husband say no (I think it's unmanly to admit to pain)!

But the real pain was the healing process.. making sure it was dry but not too dry.. making sure not to rub/scratch the scabbing off before it was ready to fall off, etc.

I think the hardest part for me was deciding on a tattoo that I could bear to look at when I was 65 and my body is no longer as firm as it is now (if ya know what I mean)!

I hope you're joking. You're pretty the way you are.

That's the thing with cosmetic surgury that pisses me off. It allows all of these self-concious, self-depreciating people to have this \"perfect body\" that everyone claims is how we should all look. We all need to be proud of the bodies we are born with.

However, I don't have any problem with cosmetic surgury that fixes things; such as, if someone were disfigured in an accident. Or, in the cases where someone is morbidly obese to the point that it is a major health risk, then liposuction is perfectly reasonable to use--If the person plans on getting themselves on the right track to keep their body in good shape. That's all fine.

But getting a boob job is stupid and pointless. The only reason I can think of to get a breast enhancement, is to attract men. If those are the kind of men you want to attract, so be it, but don't complain when all they want from you is sex :-/

Maybe I just don't get it. Oh well.

Rinoa Heartilly- of the game Final Fantasy VIII. The back of her jacket has two small, cartoony wings. They're pretty cute. I'm trying to find a good picture of them... I suppose you would have to play the game. There's some good CG cutscenes that show them well.

      i was/am a surgery junkie.

      i've had:
      - reshape and move hairline down
      - brow lift
      - reshaping of bones above eyes
      - nose job (open rhinoplasty)
      - upper lip lift (reduce distance between lip and nose)
      - chin reshaping (genioplasty)
      - jaw line reshaping.

and some other stuff, that i don't want to admit to here.

there's nothing more i want done (or could afford anyway), but i still love (and crave) the whole ceremony and excitement of major surgery. not to mention morphine and demerol

As for the cosmetic stuff. I dont mind. My mom got like 2 done and she wants me to do like 2 or 3 as well(one for my nose, eyes so no more glasses, and area under eyes)...and im only 17 haha. If people have a way to boost their self-esteem and dont mind using all that money, then power to them.

Umm...if they're strangers, that would mean they don't KNOW YOU...if they don't know you, why would you care what they think?!?! You need some self esteem girl!

Anyways- I have had just my lobes pierced since kindgergarten, then my friend got into piercing and pierced two of my friends ears and I let him give me second holes in my lobes. That was less than a week ago, we got them together because I was leaving (moving). I liked it, it was a rush. I don't know what else I'll pierce though, I don't want anything on my face, definately nothing on the tits or genitals, so that doesn't leave much. I'll probably get more on my ears.

I do however need a tattoo. My uncle used to be a tattoo artist and on the cover of tons of tat mags, he's covered in ink from head to toe, but he got diabetes and can't see well anymore. Now I don't know who I'll have do mine. I want a nice picture I found in Gray's Anatomy, it's of the pelvic bone (ouch! oh well), it's a cross section of blood vessels, bone, muscle, nerve...everything.

The significance this would have to me is how we are all of the same blood and bones, same make up on the inside. Also, my thirst for knowledge on how we came to be, and my interest in the sciences and genetics.

You know...it's societys gross outlook that makes peolpe feel that good looks equals self esteem. I'm not getting at you for wanting corrective eye surgery (I want that too), but people think it's acceptable to put themselves in physical danger and spend thousands of dollars just for vainity.

why do you dress in anything other than dirty rags? why should it matter what people think of you?

it isn't vanity, i'm not pretty now, but i sure as heck wasn't before. i just wanted what just about everyone else takes for granted.

i got my self esteem now. bought and paid for.

I'm with you. I kinda stopped caring what people thought of me a while ago, but i can see where she is coming from. Strangers can be horrible people whether you know them or not.

You know...it's societys gross outlook that makes peolpe feel that good looks equals self esteem. i hate to say it, but good looks usually does equal self-esteem; whether you like it or not. Face it, beautiful people have easier lives(or at least dont face the same problems as to those who are not pretty). It may not be acceptable, but i guess to others, the risks are worth it....

Some of the reasons why i am reluctant in getting them done to me is simply the pain, side effects, consequences etc. Not to mention that knowing how they do it doesnt help either(also im only 17).

i was doing quite well before i had this done. i'm not anymore. my life savings are gone, and i'm back to nearly square one. but it was well worth it. [/b]

voidofform - I am happy that you feel better about yourself now that you have had this done. No one can tell you if what you did was wrong or right. I personally don't disagree with you at all. If it makes you feel better that is all that matters.

Some will say any modification is desecrating the body God gave you... I believe God gave us the technology so why not use it!

As for my boob job... I want it only for me and my significant other. My boobs get plenty of attention now, it's just I don't like the way my breasts look without a bra. I know I will get other kinds of attention after they are done but in my opinion that is just a plus. I can truly say I don't give a flying fuck what people think about my boobs.

Anyway Modify away peeps and lets see some pics... Yeah yeah I will share too!
