^^ Awesome site, Howie! *saved to Favorites* It's much more detailed than weather.com, and the radar is better quality as well. I'll have to take some time and go through all the different things on it. Thanks!!

Just to keep on track on a bit of dreaming here i tried to make it snow in my dream a few weeks back and the good news it worked the bad news is that it came from two tornados what where heading right to my house. Heres a thought; you never every see tornados which are snow, i mean you see water, dirt and sand but never snow.
Anyway, when i was small i had a lot of dreams of tornados and they always went after me (i hate it when nightmares just go after you and not other people in your dream it feels so unfair) and i always ran from them with my friends or family. If i did get sucked into a tornado i would become a tornado and kill my family and friends because it felt just unfair (that sounds really sadistic).
Back to my dream with snow tornados, i hate tornados in dreams so i went back inside my house and closed the door and i could see them stop and all the snow went. When i went outside they start up again, so this went on for about 2 times until i said to myself "might as well get this over and done with, it is just a dream" so i stepped into the tornado and all i could feel was that i was spinning and just white and poof i woke up.
Anyway im doing a geography GCSE and i know a bit about weather, the isobars, low and high pressure, depressions and anti-cyclones. Its good to know a bit about weather because it gives you more of a understanding of whats happening where we live and the world we live in. Stupid global warming making our world hotter.
Did you know that the climate of the mediterranean will shift up towards france and england because of global warming (no shock horror there then).
Thats hot .

Plus isn't colorado engulfed by snow, i don't know if i should feel sorry for them or think there lucky, i mean they get an extra extra extra extra white christmas.
Im not afraid of the dark, its whats in it.
*the lights turn off and the whole room goes dark*
Oh im fin- Ahhhhhhhh its a scary figment of my imagination.

If there was ever a universal dream sign I swear it would be tornadoes at some point in every one's life.

You speak of global warming. I recent Documentary was just released. An inconvenient truth. Every one should watch this.

"it is good to know about weather"
I here you.
The odd thing is that everyone is under the weather (Pun intended) But people don't fall outside the conversation of the current weather situation. I.E. uuh it's cold out.

I recently read in a newspaper article the top ten conversation enders.
Two of them were:
Don't talk about your dreams
Don't bring up weather. whew, I am glad I am not in the dating scene.

Two things that are most pertinent in Everyone life - their own body and the weather. How ignorant are most of us in both categories?

Some interesting facts (to weather geeks) that were in todays news paper.
• greatest snowfall in a 24 hour period. = 75.8" WOW. Colo. 1921
• " " in one week = 202.3" Alaska 1964
• " " in season = 1,140 Washington DC. ~JK Wash. state - 1998-1999
• Lowest temp. recorded in the US = -80 degrees Alaska 1971
- in the lower 48 states = -70 degrees

Sorry to some, this is just inclusive to the United states.

Howie...I miss my tornado dreams!!!

Also...what the effing hell happened to the snow? This winter has been the most pathetic thing I've ever witnessed. I was so excited for it to snow after spending my last Christmas in Miami Beach. But all we had was a tiny dusting one morning. No white Christmas. Nothing. I'm soooo disappointed. And the weather hasn't been all that cold either. Just rainy. Booo I say. BOO!!!!!!

Nina. I too had many dreams about tornadoes. I think we have discussed this before, haven't we?
Most of mine were when I was young. I miss them as well.
I was never afraid of them for some reason.
Maybe we can manifest one in a lucid?

What were yours like?
Eight of the last ten years have been the warmest on record. (That is the inconvenient truth)
The warmest EVER in the 48 states

Yes we've discussed our tornado dreams alot. I think I've only had one lucid dream with a tornado in it...I do believe I might have flown in the tornado, I really wish I would have written it down. Cause I can't find anything about it in my DJ. That may have been one of the nights where we lost 2 days worth of posts or something. I tink so. Anyways...this weather is thoroughly disappointing. I'm depressed because it isn't snowing. Kinda strange...but yes...tis the "inconvenient truth"

aaahhhh. Looks like I am off to plow soon. Can't put of the inevitable.

Anyway > How cool would this be? Lightning tracker

At my other house my neighbors were having a garage sale. They had a ordinary kite. I was interested so he just gave it to me.
Brooke was curious to why I would want a kite.

My intentions = I had this solid brass grounding rod that you would normally ground your house with. I was going to attach the kite to the grounding rod and put the best electricity conductor I could find attached to it. Then with an open shudder on the camera..wallah. Pictures of lightning strikes.
tell me that would not be awesome.
Brooke didn't think so.

As though anyone cares. Another lightning story.
A place called Spruce nob, the highest elevation in W.VA, my two friends and I were nearing the end of our hike. A thunder storm and butt loads of lighting began. It was wicked. We ran the 200 meters to take shelter in the truck. As we were sitting in the truck a bolt of lightning stuck no more than 100 yards aways. it SHOOK the truck.
Afterwards we got out and the smell of sulphur was very strong. When you observed the whole in the ground it had blown away there was cracks and crevasses to where the lighting had dispersed.
No camera of coarse.

We had a mild earthquake. Cool.
The epicenter was in Ravenna. Which may seem like nothing if you don't know the area.
There we have what they call the Revenna arsenal. Mound and mound of weapons from where ever. I believe WW ll stock.
I had the experience of flying over this area with my friend to get a very unique and indepth view.
Hundreds of acres of mounds. Thousands of them.

Interesting.
I hope it didn't shake anything too hard

Rain guages

As I bought another rain gauge yesterday, I got to thinking of what seems to me, a basic principle.
When gauging rain, how accurate can a small typical rain gauge, the diameter of a cup be?

Would it not be more accurate just to put a pan or anything with a larger circumference to gauge it more accurately? This would account for wind and other variables, I would think.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I would think a larger diameter would be a more accurate measurement of rainfall, specifically for the reason you mentioned - wind.

You could always set up your own experiment using your new rain gauge versus a bucket or something with a wider rim. After X amount of days, measure each of them and see what the difference is. Make sure to record wind speeds for each day to see whether or not this variable is affecting the results.

I'm not sure what the conditions are in your neck of the woods, but you'd be waiting a LONG time for rain if you were here!

EDIT: and btw, why is this thread in General Lucid Discussion

I think they move it periodically or something.
I miss my weather station. I have been reduced to a rain gauge.
Prior to that, I have on my other house a weather station that has a rain gauge (larger) an anemometer and a wind dial. All of which kept logs on your computer.
They say you can read the weather just as accurately with some techniques out in the field, if you pay attention. Maybe this will re-hone my skills.

Oh and Burns. We are 3.35" behind in rain. We are in drought conditions.

I have been doing some research and it turns out that if you have at least a 4" in diameter gauge at the top that it is just as accurate as anything larger.
For high winds and to account for that they have tipping buckets.

FINALLY It rained today. A nice slow rain that the ground could absorb.

I am a man. I have nothing to show off. I am just a person withnothingexcept for what I would like to show off, which is nothing.
