Tell me.. About DV member, or friend clones.

Ok something really freaky just happened. I was walking around my office, its a HUGE office where I work, like a thousand people or something so I have not seen everyone here, I dont think, and decided to walk to my desk in a way I have never gone before. My office is a figure of 8 (as per the attached). I normally go the same way but went the other way and I bumped into Oneironaught!!!!

Ok well it wasn't him, but damn does he look like him. I am going to try sneak a picture on my phone if I can!!

Has anyone else ever seen someone who they though was or who looked like someone else?

There must be such thing as a "universal look" or something, because I've been approached many times by people who say hi to me, then go - "oh, so sorry, you look just like..."

And I believe there are two kinds of commonalities: there's the "looks just like" category - and the "reminds me of" category.

Looks just like is for those that have same physical features (eyes, nose, lips, etc)

Reminds me of are those that don't necessarily look like another person, but there's something about them that just keeps reminding you of that other person - whether namerisms, the way they talk, expressions. These seem to freak me out the most, because it's like the person is actually hidden inside of them!

PS- you take that picture from outer space or what? LOL!

So did you ask him: "Hello are you mister Oneironaught?"

I would have done, but apparently I dont pronounce Oneironaught correctly.

      I say: O-neero-nort

But I am told it is: O-ni(like night without the ght)-ronort.

      Heyho

      Actually, it's Oh-new-ro-not.
Just, less of a curving "u" at the end of the "new" and you've got it.

Though, even pronounced correctly, that would be one fun encounter:

      - Um...hello, are you...Oneironaught?
      - ...what?

This happened to me just this weekend. Saturday I think. I was at this community thing and out of the crowd comes this guy who looked almost exactly like Oneironaut, except with more hair. I think I did a quadruple take and he smiled at me. He was walking with a lady who was pushing a stroller.

It looked so much like him that I felt a nearly unsupressable urge to ask if he was O, but I had to hurry along and take a batch of photos of dancers. I wonder what he would have done if I'd just snapped a picture of him and took off?

Would be funny if asked a stranger in the street, "Hey are you Vex Kitten?"

Don't you know that I'm stalking you, Adam? It was worth getting the job here, I mean, there just to keep my eye on you

And it's oh-NIGH-row-naught. You can also say: oh-NIGH-ruh-naught The "oh" rhymes with "know". The "NIGH" rhymes with "buy". The "naught" rhymes with "bought"

I would like to see a photo though

I was under the impression "neiro" would be pronounced the same as "neuro".
      As in...neuroscience. Isn't it?

I can barely even spell Oneironaught so pronouncing it was out of the question for me. Next time I see that O look-alike I can ask if it's him and won't look like too much of an idiot stammering and trying to pronounce it correctly.

Thanks for clearing up the pronounciation.

      I couldn't help getting involved.

"Oneiro" comes from Greek "όνειρο". In Greek, the ει part is pronounced like "ee" in "feet"; so I'd expect it to be said like "oh-nee-ro-nawt."

But if you want to pronounce it any other way, then fine.

Laugh it up... I say it the way Stephen LaBerge says it. And if we can't trust him to get his LDing terms correctly then we have nothing.

PLUS: In Websters, it comes from "oneiric", meaning "of or relating to dreams". And the pronunciation?

      o (long O) - ni (long "I") - rik

      Look it up.

SO, guess what? You're wrong. Who's laughing now? That's right: me! :p

      Read it and weep...

... then bow before me :p

      oneiric \oh-NY-rik\, adjective:
Of, pertaining to, or suggestive of dreams; dreamy.

      http://dictionary.reference.com/word...000/12/01.html

This confirms what Webster says (as if I had any reason to doubt them).

      Yay, double post! Cha-ching.

Fair enough, OhNYronaught. I stand corrected.

I have not seen anyone that looks like anyone I know.
HOWEVER, whenever I show someone my picture they say I look JUST LIKE someone they know.
Well, you know what? Bleh. I hate it! People need to stop looking like me.

What always cracks me up is when people say to me, "You know you look just like (insert name here)!".. and then later I'll actually SEE that person.. and (aside from the fact that we're both female), she will look absolutely NOTHING like me!! :p

This is a weird aspect of human pattern recognition. Sometimes people are so keyed in to specific aspects of an individuals form or personality, that they can see a resemblance even when these very specific characteristics are all that are actually similar. For instance, you may have a similar smile to someone and so in their mind, "you look just like them"
