Thread: Tell me how close you've been to death

I know this isn't very on topic seen as though I'm not talking about myself here but my mum has tripped over infront of a bus and had to knock on the front window while trying to climb up it, crying. Lol

When I was in Vietnam, 20 crazy kongoes attacked me with AKM-47s. I think they threw 3 fragnades and then shot a lot. Fortunately, I grabbed a dead body, and covered myself, playing dead afterwards.

Somehow I don't really think that happaned.

Thank God you were that little brat! It scares the crap out of me to think what would have happened to you had you gotten in that car.

When I was younger I actually accepted a ride from a lady that looked vaguely familiar to me, but who at the time I had no real idea who she was.

i was swimming in a river alone with relatives and friends on the banks, coz i wanted to get a lil more swimming in before we went home, and i dove (i was doing breaststroke), and when i went back upm, a motorboat's propeller was inches from my head.

couple seconds, but when i was going down i heard the motor, but i didnt think the boat was coming this way...

the closest i have cme to death is when i was born which apparantely was quite sketchy!

Apart from that not much except for there was quite a high chance that i would never have been here anyway because my dad (when he was about 20) was driving on a road in the midlands somewhere and decided to overtake a lorry (in the dark).

as he was going past (around the middle he realised the dual carriageway had abruptly ended and it had become just a normal road (one lane one way the other lane the other way) unkown to him there was a right angle turn up ahead and suddenly another lorry came around this corner so there was a lorry on one side of him and a lorry on the other!

He then just got as close to the lorry he was overtaking as he could and says the last thing he thought was " oh F*** Everyones going to think i was being a tw** overtaking where i shouldn't have been! Amazingly the lorry just took of his side mirror!!

He still doesn't understand how hes still here and how all three of them managed to stay on the road!

but some years ago when we where celebrating new year we shot a big ass firework up in a tree and it didn't blow up. I loved (still do) fireworks so the next day i went to get that firework back and blow it up. it was just the explotion left in the firework, not the thing that makes it fly away, and i had just a fuse to a little rocked.
It was windy and i tried to light the fuse, and then suddely the wind took the flame or the fuse went fast into the firework. anyway it exploded in my hand and i was flashed (like in Counter Strike but with black color instead of white) and i couldn't hear anything. i dodn't know if my hand where still sticking to my arm or if it was spread all over the place.
when the flash was over i saw that my hand wasn't badly harmed, just 13 holes in both of them.
have been other things that could have been killing me to, have seen the lightning strike down about 100 Meters away from me, overturn with a boat and other stupid things that is so damn fun but dangerours.

Me and my friend were stupid enough once, to take a shortcut behind some archery targets. We were about 35 meters away and we didn't see anyone practicing. We thought that the chances of someone actually shooting and missing the target in those 5 seconds as we walked by, were too slim to even consider. So we didn't consider it, untill an arrow flew right between our heads (1 meter or 3 feet away).

One day i was out kitesurfing, and i was standing on the beach with my kite in the air, talking to this guy. Suddenly the wind drops so my kite stalls and falls down dirrectly in front of me, making it catch the wind with full power. I was pulled over a windsurf-sail, through this beach tent full of kids, over a fence and ended up on a parking lot. If i had hit a car, i would probably have died.
Quite a lot of people have died from hitting stuff while doing this...

Yes ... very expensive ... but it's worth every penny ... and if you buy used equipment, you can get it much cheaper ... every year new kites are released and everybody sells thier ones from last year at <50% of the price...

I was born 3 weeks late. My skin was all crusty and dry and they said I would have died if they didn't induce labour that day :S

Ive also been hit by a car when I was riding a bike. bitch wrecked my seat.

One of the days I was in Maui the waves at the beach of my hotel were gigantic. Not North Beach huge, but at least twice the size of me (so about 12 feet?). For some stupid - and I mean stupid - reason, I decided to run towards one of the waves and do a full spread star fish jump. By that I mean I ran towards a nearly crested wave and jumped into it head on with my arms and legs spread out. Don't know why, maybe I thought it'd be fun?

Anyways, I immediately got knocked back and under, underestimating the force of this water beast. I hit the bottom and did at least three somersaults. By this time I had little to no breath left and was beginning to panic; I didn't know which way was up, and I knew the depth was enough because there wasn't one part of me that was dry (I was completely submerged). I think the Gods smiled on me that day because right before I passed out my feet found the bottom and I exploded from the surface.

Definately didn't go into the water for the rest of the day.

I was born with a hole in my lung. was in ICU for 2 weeks before I was able to go home. thats actually how I got my name. my mom would sing a song that had some line about "bring my baby back across the river Jordan" on her way home from church while I was in the hospital. named me Jordan.

I was also backbacking thru Glacier National park in Montana years back.
A bear came into our camp at night. we couldnt see it, but could damn sure hear it. my uncle started setting off bottle rockest to scare it away, except one of them hit a tent, and set it on fire. lmao, that was a crazy night.
A day or two after that, we encountered a bear in broad daylight. It walked straight towards us, slapping the dirt, growling and shaking its head back and forth. was maybe 50 feet from us. We jumped into the Lake and hiked 3 miles in the water. probably the scariest moment of my life.

then theres the time I got robbed at gun point. having a gun to your head is never fun.
had to run from a few shootings in my neighborhood too. I hate guns, heh.

I almost drowned once when I was about 8. I was in my mom's friend's pool. I couldn't swim at all so I was staying in the shallow end of the pool. Suddenly, I slipped down the slope that leads to the deep end. My mom was at the very end of the pool and she just watched me going under with a puzzled look on her face. I tried to wave my hands above the water but I was already so deep. My mom's friends saw me go under and she jumed in the pool in her NIGHT GOWN and saved my life.

You know, I've been hit by cars three times, broken just about every bone in my body, been in horrific auto accidents, fallen off 30-40 foot tall cliffs, had lightning strike a car's antenna not twenty feet away from me, and have had numerous guns pointed in my face, but I don't feel like I've ever been close to death.

I don't know if that means I'm lucky or stupid....

Probably a combination of both if that's true. I don't want to call you a lier, but that's kind of hard to believe.

the closest that i've ever been to death was at the Grand Canyon. i was walking by the edge and i slipped. Luckily my foot got caught in a root before i could start slipping of the edge (The ground was all gravel and dirt, making it easy to slide around on it). I fell with my face looking down on the cliff while the rest of my body stayed on land. . .Scary shit.

My little brother jumped on me when I was in the deep end of the swimming pool when I was younger. I didn't start drowning but it certainly was the closest to death I've been so far.

My dad passed a red light, thinking it was a green light. Thank goodness nothing happened.

At the age of one, I crawled out of my cage, er.. crib, and into the bathroom, onto the toilet, onto the sink, and into the medicine cabinet. I chugged a bottle of Dimetapp, and got through the child-proof seal on a thing of tylonol, and had lke ten of those. I was fine. Another time, more recently, I was sailing and was ht in the hea with the boom. I fell into the water and blacked out. I'd have died if not for my life vest. My girlfriend once got really drunk, and she thought whiskey was just as alcholic as beer, so she drank a whole bottle. She's only like a hundred pounds, too. Luckily, I made her throw it back up. And one of my dad's friend's at the Naval Academy was scheduled to fly the next week. It was the day before graduation, and they were in his dorm late at night, hanging out. He looked out the window and said "Man, I'm really ognna miss seeing those green lights on Stanbury Point" or something like that. He was red-green colourblind, the worst kind for pilots, because the lights that mark off the runway are red on one side and green on the other, so he'd have cme in the runway backwards.
