Personally, I think too much of the blame has been put on the President. Now, I'm not saying I like everything about President Bush, but he sure has done a heckuva lot better than I could do. Now, the President is not this all-powerful entity. If you read Article I, Section 8 is lists the powers of Congress which includes declaring war, laying and collecting taxes, borrow money, and make laws that are necessary and proper, among others. Since there is only 1 president he is more often in the limelight taking the hits for the problems with our government when Congress is holding the power.

The president may have the desire to send troops to various countries but he must request that Congress delegate funds towards his cause. If he wants to get an amendment passed that prohibits homosexual marriage then he must first find a Congressman willing to introduce a bill to either the House or Senate. Then it has to go through a fairly lengthy process before it's even voted on and if it passes it must then pass in the other house of Congress. Not to mention, if it is a constitutional amendment he is trying to pass, it must also be passed with a majority of states supporting it. The president has no power when it comes to creating laws or delegating money or many other areas of government.

Personally, I feel that this government was reasonably well set up and has functioned adequately for well over 200 years. The president may have the power to carry out some of his desires, but more often than not it is Congress that holds the purse and the power. I think a lot of people have forgotten that....especially the media.

Those are just my 2 bits.

Thats true. The president is blamed for everything. If something happens to the country its his fault, even if he has no control of it, everyone stills blames him.

When I have kids, they're gonna be self-reliant and inquisitive about the structure of the world. Questioning authority will be a regular topic at the dinner table
I am not sure if I will ever have kids, although I hope I will. I have thought about this topic very much, and eventhough they should be taught all that I know, I don't really want to impose my beliefs upon them, which is what I think I will probably end up doing.

I will try to be as neutral as possible and just let them know their options. In the end, they are to take the path that they desire, not the one I want them to have. Otherwise I would be a hypocrite, dictating how we all should be free and how we should see beyond the facade, but then giving my children a certain view...

I know corruption is inevitable, but that doesn't mean we can add as many measures as possible, to at least make it harder to occur....[/b]
No no, I wouldn't enforce a dictatorship, actually that was kind of a joke, only would happen if we were all in on it
I'd just let them know about my side of the issue, TV would take care of the other side...I'd show them the happiness of human interaction and creativity. If they choose materialism over reality, it sucks but I won't take it away.
In this crazy world if they don't consider you mad, then you have no confirmation of your own sanity, do you?
Imagine if this crazy world thought you were sane?! Oh my God, worst nightmare!

That is the thing that I fear that I would not be able to do. Hopefully I can be the bigger man, stand back and let it happen, if that is their choice...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...
