      What is the maximum size for an avatar?
      Are animated GIF avatars allowed?
      Are non-animated gif avatars allowed?

      As the avatar editing page states:

      Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 130 by 130 pixels or 125.0 KB (whichever is smaller).
      Animated GIFs are allowed but as long as it isn't anything that burns the eyes due to extremely bright colours or overly swift animation.
