Thread: DV IRC Chat Resurrection

Since we can't see if members are in IRC or not, and no one wants to set up permanent residence in there...for now I would suggest that users who want to chat and would like others to join them in IRC, make a post to bump this thread. Maybe someone will see it and come join you. =)

Thoughts? Better solutions?

That seems to have summed up the instructions rather clearly.

However I'm slightly confused as to why http://irc.kaniaz.com/ , which used to be a link to a java application that allowed people to chat on #dreamviews via the web is now a link for mortgages. I smell trickery.

Also I'm pro IRC. It's darwinism in action, if you're too stupid to set up mIRC (or whatever) then you're too stupid to chat at all. Survival of the cleverests!

Question - why do I randomly get "Unknown error" when trying to connect?

I try for a bit with no luck, then a little while later, it connects fine.

Right now my Mirc is being stupid and having 'unknown errors" again.

Could we get a link to it in the link bar on top? If you could, that'd be awesome.

AAAAH!!! I couldn't download the piece o shit! 1/3 of the way through, it says something has a virus or something and shuts off. Help?

Which Program are you downloading? if you went to the mirc website, you shouldn't have any issues with a virus or anything.

I did go to mirc, clicked the download thingy, then it goes to some other window for Cnet, then I clicked download and 1/3 of the way through, it says it was unable to do something and it mentioned a virus.

Hmm... well, I got mine a really long time ago when they hosted the stuff on their own site, and I just downloaded from a mirror, but as far as I know, CNet is a safe site.

I did an AVG anti-virus scan and an Ad-aware anti-spyware scan, and nothing came up on the virus scan. Guess I'll try again, but this time idling while the download is running.

Edit: All that did was speed up it's death! GOD DAMMIT! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

hmm... I could try to download it, then send it to you over MSN if you want. Otherwise, get a program such as Trillian or something of that sort, and just install the IRC Plugin, and use that.

Well I cannot get on IRC so have fun without me

Okay, I downloaded Trillian, now there's a blank blue screen with a typing box in front of it with the word Browse on it, and the words Next and Cancel below. What do I do?

Where's MSG and Kaniaz when you need them? I could've sworn MSG once mentioned that he knew how to put this onto the forum.

suttsman, just Google the Chatzilla plugin for Firefox, if you don't already have it. I can't remember if it's standard in Firefox or not. Anyways, install that in Firefox, open it via the Tools menu, and in the input line type:

Then after that type:

/join #DreamViews

That should set you right up.
