Please watch, gorgeous russian animation, you'll love it!

      Hi guys,
I just spent 2 days subtitling this myself so I could share it with non russian speaking people. This is a 1968 russian animation based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, the little mermaid. It is much more true to the story than the Disney version and the animation, I can guarantee, is unlike any you have seen before. It's about 30 min long, in 3 vids on youtube, and stick around for the sea scenes to see the great animation.

I'm unable to watch this "goregous" animation since you don't know how to embed. Will watch when you learn how.

it is special. Did you wait around for the sea scenes or are you just determined to put me down no matter what? The animation is artistic and completely different than Western animation and very much worth watching.

It was just animation. It was different, yeah, but it was animation. Artistic, sure. But not like.. amazingly mind blowing or anything.

obviously I and the others who posted can appreciate exquisite animation to a greater extent than you do. You have clearly made your opinion known, and I must say i disagree. If I did not value this cartoon so highly I would not have spent 2 days subtitling it, using software I had to learn to use as I went along.

I can appreciate art just fine thank you. Why else would I go to the Art Mueseum every few months? My opinion is just as valid as others. It was good animation, very good, just not like.. "I just shit my pants because I'm so amazed" animation.

That's very nice, I couldn't watch more than the first part cuz it made me nostalgic. It's not a unique animation for an old Russian cartoon, but I'm sure it would be very interesting for anyone who has never seen that style before.

yeah, of course, the 'unique' is geared towards western viewers, I grew up with these cartoons myself
it has a similar style to bremenskiyi muzikanti...I want to subtitle that one too sometime soon.

OMG!!! Is that one on youtube?? Could you link it to me please, if it is? My spelling in Russian isn't so hot, so I don't even try to search for stuff myself. That, and I probably can't remember half the names of shows/movies I grew up with.

Be happy to! There are tons of old russian cartoons up on youtube, even though it takes a little patience. Oh, well, at least nu pogodi is easy to find

I watched some of it, and the sea scenes. It was an interesting style, but not terribly amazing.

It's vaguely reminiscent of some old French and Latin language animations I used to have on video tape. And it kind of reminds me of some children's stories animations I've seen as a kid. I like it but it is a somewhat dated style that's hard to sell to the younger American generation. Not that that's a bad thing; just an observation.

      Good work on the sub-titling.

But really, you had me at "gorgeous Russian". What more do I need to hear?

EDIT: The underwater mermaid scene reminds me of Fantasia.

The animation was lovely, and an excellent job on the subtitles. Thank you.

With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you.
