Mes...who suggested wrapping a light bulb in paper?

I said, if he does have a lamp shade (and he's still having the light problem) wrap it (the lamp shade) in construction paper - making the light that already comes through the lamp shade darker.

Actually, if you get one of those flourescent bulbs which use WAY less energy, it won't set anything on fire. The tungsten bulbs get incredibly hot, but I can hold onto my flourescent bulb after it has been on for hours. I can hold it for like 10 minutes without burning myself, because they are only a little warm.

Alternatively, you can realize that there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark. Like, seriously, don't play so many video games lol

When I was younger I used to leave the door to my room open and leave the corridor light on, so that some light would come in and prevent the room from being pitch black, but it was sufficiently dark to be able to sleep. That always worked for me, and also, when my parents went to bed after me, they could switch the light off, since I would be asleep already... save energy and that .

I agree that you need to be careful leaving materials too near to a light bulb for prolonged periods. One of my early memories is burning the head of a soft toy by leaving him sitting on my light for about a minute .

If like me, you sometimes seem to see horrible images/silhouettes in shadows in tyoyr room, just sleep facing the wall(away from shadows) or sleep with the covers almost at head height. Or just stare at the horrible shadow, even if it seems as if it is turning to face you, realise nothing that you think you see is real. Or turn on your light, realise any weird shape is just clothes or something.
Lugggs and cuddles and hugs for all!!

If you face the wall though, then something could be sneaking up behind you that you can't see... what if?

I used to be like this, but at some point, it just stopped, I can't really remember when or why, but I started preferring the door to be shut and for it to be completely dark

There shouldn't be any shadows if it's pitch black .

I was going to suggest that, or maybe a lower wattage bulb?

Someone suggested a night light. Night lights are great. They're bright, yet not too bright. My kids have them in their rooms. My 8yr old has two nighlights in his room, and it's bright enough to where he doesn't get scared, but dim enough to sleep.

Hey, you can always get one of those cool Spiderman ones, or Dora the Explorer ones.
