Doesn't anyone find this offensive? No tie-righters?

Well not particularly seeing as you basically had your entire argument defeated by a single picture.

I see the parallel between your Hijab thread and this one; your trying to make a pertinent point. Unfortunately your point needs sharpening. Or throwing in the bin/trash/garbage, or whatever you use to dispose of trash in Germany.

In Germany we like littering.

1) The simple fact that this thread was made to "prove a point" after the last thread was closed basically destroys all possible chance of anyone taking it seriously.

2) The text in your hijab thread was much more offensive, which I'm sure you were conscious of while writing this one.

3) The hijab is apart of a religious culture which, to those you should have shown a little more tolerance, means a lot more than bow ties do to...basically anyone who feels like wearing a bow tie.

I'm not that proficient in English cursing but I will try this: Bow ties make you look like Dick Cheney's infected ass pimples dipped in the anal waste of the offspring of a rotten skunk with an aborted fetus, strapped to the back of a 96' Honda with a giant shit-coated warthog pissing on them and vomit oozing out of his ear and genital area.

Now the point should be made.

Why should I care? First off, that doesn't mean it looks good, because it just doesn't. Then it just adds to the pile that it's also a sign of delusion and brainwashing. So that would more be in favor of my criticism actually.

Actually, you know what? According to the very women I posted in the thread, they absolutely feel like wearing it and aren't forced to do so. So your point is void and the head-pissing is redirected.

That's what's so sad about it. Which is ironic because it explicitly states to avoid the forum should one dislike "intolerant religious zealots". And I actually wouldn't even care so much (for the religious aspect...) if women wouldn't have to run around like that and basically look terrible doing so.

Apparently you don't see the difference. Yeah, but that's no my point. You're the authoritative representative and you are discerned from me (a user). If you don't care about the reasons of closing, then that makes you a totalitarian. If I don't care about whether someone is religiously offended then that makes me a "religiously intolerant person" (or in this specific case, a fashion God).

I don't actually care why someone is wearing a hijab, I was just refuting your point. Whether it's glued to the head or worn on Halloween, it's just bad in either case. And wow, if it weren't 99.99% of hijab-wearers who are Islamic, maybe the point would mean something. People who aren't forced to wear it, don't. It's like wearing a too small one piece swim-suit to go biking. You wouldn't do it.

No more "totalitarian" than a judge who doesn't care that you feel his ruling is offensive, after making a judgment call. There is enough evidence throughout the span of DV to make it more than apparent that we are not totalitarian, so call it what you will. Again, the label seems more like the lashing out of someone who is just mad that his intentionally offensive thread got locked, and I don't think you will find much sympathy for it.

Well, I was obviously using the term in an exaggerated manner. But yes, it would mean that you were closed to reasonable debate about a subject of conflict. There is a difference between "not caring" about having a debate and "not caring" about the feelings of "hijabists" as I like to call them, just as there is a difference between "not caring" about the life and physical well-being of someone and "not caring" about which topping you get on your pizza. The one is caring about "feelings" (offense) which can be avoided by simply avoiding offensive content. We don't just ban porn because Catholics find it offensive. We tell them "hey guys, this site contains porn" and they are free to leave. The other is caring about the exchange of ideas to come to a mutually acceptable conclusion in civilized (or uncivilized) discourse. Well, really any kind of discourse is OK with me as long as it's there and based on a common perception of the level of honesty, seriousness etc. They are very different indeed.

My thread wasn't closed to discussion, until... well, it was closed. It might not have been the grandmother of cuteness itself, but it was still to be open to critical response from the jury. I would have liked to see a debate evolve about possible substitutes for the jihab. And when I say substitutes, I mean HOT substitutes. OH yeahhhh...

You have only the inflammatory way in which you started the thread to blame for that. You can't expect (allegedly) mature conversation to stem from a juvenile premise. Personally, I have no desire to see that thread re-opened, if you honestly wish to have mature discussion on the subject, I would suggest you try again, with at least some cognizance of the conversational tone you are setting.

Well, I said there has to be a common denominator in terms of what constitutes the basis of the conversation. I didn't intend the thread to produce mature conversation. If I had, I would have made a whole different thread... I intended it to produce a discussion on the premise of profanity, subjectivity and general exchange of personal sexual preferences, as well as any level of creativity, humor, tastelessness and disrespect that could be fit into it.

Basically, what the internets were made for.
