I hope that sometime in the future there is some sort of trade off where people can get their current cars recycled for some sort of discount on an electric or other type of energy car.
Obviously you don't understand. If gas prices go up to 6-8 dollars a gallon all hell will break loose. Currently where I live diesel is 5.15$. What uses diesel? Trucks, and trains. What do trucks and trains do.... they supply the country with all of our merchandise. Oil goes up, everything goes up. And a new type of energy wont be displayed for AT LEAST another 15-20 years. So you better start wishing It the price will go down for the time being.

Yeah I really do. Look at how long there so-called scientists have been saying were running out of oil.... since like the late 60's. We haven't done anything until now. We've haven't even had the hybrids out for 5 years. So they've been saying were running out of oil for 30-40 years and Its killing the Earth, well they haven't done a damned thing about it! I'm guessing 15-20 years based on previous actions.

P.S oil is more abundant than water so we should be paying a dollar or less a gallon.

Honestly, the only solution for now are these:

Take your SUV, and blow it up

Buy a small car, preferably a honda civic hybrid, 53 mpg and its not ugly like prius

      Drive slower

      Accelerate less

Make sure tire pressure is proper

      Check fluids, oil....etc

Keep windows closed, open windows = more drag

Air conditioned cars make the car get around 1-2 mpg less..use AC if you need it!

Keep car in neutral at red lights...

There are many things you can do to help ease the pain...

My 2003 VW Passat has an estimated 25 MPG...

I get 31 MPG the way I drive, I save gas and money and stress

Do you mean 1-2 mpg MORE than with the windows open? Or do you mean 1-2 mpg LESS than driving with no AC and windows closed?

This was mythbusted. The problem is the scale test pointed to AC being better and the other test said windows open was way better. So I don't know what to believe. And I don't want to hear anything about the validity of that show because it is awesome.

In that case, mythbusters need to use my car next time. The aircon pump is the size of a small beer keg, and the revs drop when you turn it on.... so you use more fuel to maintain the same revs.

Having the windows open is like driving with a parachute strapped behind it.... I think this one varies on the size of the car and windows.

well, its common sense, the windows open causes drag, doesn't really cool you off when its 100 degrees anyway, its noisy...and it wastes more gas...less aerodynamics.

The AC brings down mpg by about 1 to 2, windows open can be anywhere from 1-4 mpg less...id rather have the windows shut with the ac on with nice cool air and music i can hear.

BTW, gas WILL reach 6 dollars a gallon, if not more...mark my words.

When this does happen, I hope to god people don't just sit back and keep paying, the american people have to get off their fat lazy mcdonalds eating asses and FUCKING DO SOMETHING!!!!!!! people in this country are so apathetic its embarrassing.

nah, why attack the oil companies, that will make the price 10$ a gallon.

Attack the Fed for inflating our currency, if inflation was gone we would be paying 2.50 a gallon at most

Can someone explain why Prius MPG has dropped below 50? Shouldn't the MPG be going up? It was 61 last year.

The oil companies complained to Bush, Bush threatened to invade Japan if Toyota didn't lower it

Seriously, I have no idea. I've seen lots of cars come out with great MPGs, but then 3 years later they suck just as back as the normal gas guzzlers. I hope that the '09 model gets 80.

The reason is the quality of gas. It has to do with the damn chemicals their adding so fewer carbons ar released into the air. Plus I think some stations are diluting the gas with water/ or other shit.

E85 burns as well as regular gas, besides car ratings don't depend on what's in the gas.

I think they changed their standards for measuring mpg as the old way gave values that were much higher than anyone actually got when driving, that might be why.

I'm talking about regular petroleum sold at every day gas stations, and the efficiency of its combustion. Not ratings on the vehicles. Besides E85 is f8cking corn! Where did you come up with that?

As far as I know, all they've added to the gas is ethanol. In PA every gas pump says right on it: Gas contains up to 15% ethanol.

Ethanol has 23.4 MJ/liter and gasoline has 32 MJ/liter. Makes most people think that they get less power from E85, but E85 is sold at higher octane levels then gasoline so you get the same amount of power.

It's a good thing that fuel can be produced from corn. Every year huge quantities of corn are bought and destroyed by the US government. It's a total waste, that corn could be used to produce fuel.

You can't use Hydrogen for fuel. There isn't enough on Earth to do that. Also, you can't easilly separate it form water. And, telling thousands of gas stations in the US of A to go to hydrogen is unrealistic.
