For those of you who are into fitness and the gym or would like to, post up your experiences and motivations. If anyone wants to talk about it on msn or whatever that would be oright. Post ur stats ppl!!

Before weight versus current weight: 60kg-85kg.

Time lifting:3 years.

Days per week: 3-4 at one hour a session.

Current training split:
Day1-Chest and Triceps
Day2-Back and Biceps.
Day3-Off or cardio.
Day4-Legs.
Day5-Shoulders.
Day6-Off
Day7-Off or cardio.

Supplements currently taking: Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein blend, Creatine, L-Glutamine, Multivitamin, Vitamin C, Glucosamine.

Why you lift: Because it can amplify and incorporate some of the most powerful emotions possible, make you feel 'alive'. It truly is a great lifestyle, keeps you fit and if you like, look better. Sort of a love hate relationship sometimes though, but i love it.

Post pics guys or your goals, training splits, be good ot see what everyone trains like.

Thanks, Ben.

I need some of your motivation. <-- green with envy

I can't even remember the last time I worked out. I even went out and bought $100 worth of pilates DVDs and stuff and have only used it, like, 3 times.

It does not seem to me you need to work out Burnsy!

I have a active and physical job that keeps me in shape most of the year. It is these winter months that I really need to push myself.
I do push-ups and curls with some dumbells I have.
I play Basket ball in the winter to keep my cardio and legs up to speed.

Supplements currently taking = hops and barley.

I think Fitness is one of the gayest mass-fads ever. Do a real sport if you want to be all healthy and stuff.

I want to become somewhat more muscular myself, but I don't want to work out on a regular basis, as it is not any fun, and it takes too much of my precious free time.

I'm thinking of starting playing some sport, though. Sports are fun and good for the body at the same time.

Puh! Dancing just happens to be a very masculine sport

Nah, like Boxing, or kung fu, or some gay-teamsport, or something.

Yeah, and if you want to be built like a little bitch. Who wants lean muscle? It's not even noticable. You don't get compliments for having 1% body fat and little match stick arms. To everyone else you just look skinny. You get compliments and look better with huge biceps with giant veins running down you arms. There's nothing better than walking down the street knowing that you are probably stronger and more muscley than evryone else that you can see. Tonnes of people have loads of lean muscle by devoting their lives to some gay team sport and going on a 5 mile run every day, but how many people have 30" upper arms?

Sure, participate in the gay sports if you want to blend in with everyone around you. If you want to turn heads you lift weights.

Weight training is the most satisfying exercise I have ever done. You feel great afterwards when you know that you have just pushed yourself to the limit, and the results come faster than you will see in most other sports. Weight training doesn't have to be less fun/ more difficult than other sports.

I weight train for 1/2 an hour to an hour on week days. I wouldn't say that it takes up more of you free time than any other sport.

I'd like to gain a bit of muscle mass, but I'd feel like a fucking muscle head if I got even a bit jacked. It just doesn't mesh well with my personality.

That's what I thought before I first started. Weight training made me a whole new person (which, believe me, is a good thing), I used to be fairly quiet, had low self esteem, and confidence in myself was practically non existant.

Now I find that everyone knows my name at school because I know all the popular people who are into being ripped so they can go out on a friday night and beat the living fuck out of each other.

Being muscley has given me such a huge self esteem boost that I have become a much better person. If you start weight training there's not really a lot to lose.

I've been lifting weights on and off for years, just last summer I got serouse and I would lift almost everyday, anyway my routine might not be the best, but tell me what you guys think:

Day 1:
Shoulders
Forearms/wrists
traps

Day 2:
abs
chest

Day 3:
tricepts
bicepts

Day 4: Rest
(all exercises are isolation exercises)
Then repeat

My motivaton comes from several places, When I get jealous of people for whatever reason I feel the need to get as happy then they are (I'm jealous alot), so I want to feel like I'm improving my life, which gives me a good feeling, it's nice to see all of the steel finish on my weights ware away, another thing is I just plan hate being lazy, it also ofcourse raises my self esteem.

Also I find good exercises here, sorted by type, equipment, and body part http://bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm

I've been meaning to get more excersize. I'm 15 and I think i've stopped growing now becasue I have been putting on some weight(fat weight)My diet hasnt changed I just started gaining weight, and its pissing me off. So what Im planning to do now is swim a lot. I heard that swimming will get you into a more lean and healthy physical condition. Should I do this? Also if this works when ive dropped about 15-20 pounds I plan to start weight tranning to gain some muscle. Is a a good idea?

One more question I currently weigh 160p and im about 5'11. Is this a heathly weight for my age and height?(not all of my weight is fat)

For me personally weightlifting cannot be any fun. It is just about moving one's arms/legs the same way over and over again. In sports meanwhile it is possible to tackle people, swing a club like a maniac, trip people, etc.

It is NOT an unhealthy weight, and you have no need to drop any of it. But you could do swimming anyway. Do it to improve your physical condition, rather than doing it to drop minimal amounts of fat.

As for weightlifting, it is not necessary, since you will probably have no need of excessive strenght in your everyday life. But you would look better when looking yourself in the mirror at least, and be better able to win physical fights if you get into any.

Wrong, there is great benifits from it, ones that you havn't mentioned, I read about a guy who had a very unhealthy diet, and was a heavy smoker, but this guy lived to be in his high 90's and happened to be into weight lifting, what weight lifting does is drasticly improves your metabolism, also the best thing when it comes to losing weight so I've heard, and well everyone else is struggling to get around in there 60's 70's and 80's if they make it that far, a weight lifter will probobly be able to have the stroungth of a 20 year old if he's been doing it for a long time.

Actually my job involves shifting boxes containing tvs, microwaves, fridges etc and unloading deliveries. So I find my job a lot easier than other people would who haven't done weight training.

I've set a goal to have my weight at 165 at least by the end of next year. (my new years resolution) but I really want to hit at least 180 max.

I'm currently 140, with a slim build however.... 5'11"

Anyways, I plan on working this for next year, and tis' no mere coincidence that lead the OP to posting this shortly after my coming to this decision.

I will also (hopefully) be learning Tai Chi in the process.

I just got into fitness about 2 years ago, or so. It started off gradually, just bike-riding, running, sit-ups and push ups every now and then. Now, I've got a free gym downstairs at my job, so I try to get in there from 3-5 times a week. I've dropped from 225 to about 195-200 and replaced a lot of my bodyfat with muscle. I do about 180 crunches (3 sets of 60) and work mostly on my upperbody (3 sets of each). When I go 5 days a week, I'll space out the workouts to only do each muscle set once every other day. I still run and do abs almost everyday, though. I've started slacking over these last few holiday weeks, though, so I'll be hitting it hard again, after the new year.
I'm really just now making a lot of progress with my upperbody so I'll start throwing some more leg conditioning in there, soon.
And if all goes well, I'll start martial arts early next year. I'm thinking of starting with kickboxing.

Strengthening your muscles, tendons and bones which are all accomplished by lifting is the best thing anybody can do for their body now and throughout your life, without the injuries (if you are careful) accompanied by other kinds of sports. Aerobics is important too but in my opinion destructive if done excessively. I don't think you can have too much muscle tho. (From somebody who tries hard but is genetically not gifted and hormonally not destined to be very muscular.) I've been lifting for about 12 years, I will never quit hopefully.

My (attempted not always accomplished) routine:
Saturday - legs (squats, press, calves, extensions, curls)
Sunday - chest and back (bench, pullups, incline press, rows).
Monday - arms (biceps and triceps - barbell and dumbbell curls, pushdown, kickbacks)
Tuesday - legs (repeat of Sat, sometimes deadlift and lunges)
Wednesday - shoulders (overhead and Arnold press, upright rows, side laterals)
Thursday - extra (little of whatever I feel like, usually getting tired by this time in the week)
Friday - off.

Try to abs and hypers on chest and back and leg days, at least. I try to do aerobics 4-5 times, 15 to 45 minutes of rowing, biking, or treadmill. I hate to run so I walk hills on the treadmill.

I do take creatine but I don't know if it helps or not. Several other supplements.

I'm sixteen and I've been into weightlifting for the past two years. I went from being 135 pounds (when I was in grade 9) to a healthy 160 pounds currently. I feel great - I was born skinny and hated it up until I started working out, because zero body fat meant instant muscle. My dad was the exact same way, and he helps me a lot when I work out.

I don't have set schedule, because I'm usually very busy, so I tend to just stick to pushups every night. Chest is my number one priority, because I started with nothing and now, very gradually, I am increasing muscle.

Come next semester, though, I'll be working out every single day from 8:10 to 9:20 for five months straight, as well as playing rugby after school.

Pictures - sure, why not?

Pretty good, considering when I started I couldn't even life 15 lbs.

Creatine is an intense weight gain powder.

Starry starry night, paint your pallet blue and gray,
Look out on a summers day,
with eyes that know the darkness of my soul.

This is a thread that i had wished to only contain constructive critisicm, if you wish to ignore the beauty and hidden aspects of weightlifting, then don't put it down.

it may be a mass fad for this new generation of 'wanna`be biceps guys', but they only tarnish what truly is, one of the greatest tools to improve your body`and mind.

My pics are in the pics thread, or
