I rented T.O.B. and I could never get past Level 17(I think...) the one where you had to launch yourself up platforms in a U formation. I had to take it back before I could do it...

I'm probably gonna rent it again so I can finish it.

I loved the game... or at least, what I played...

I can't wait to see where Portal 2 goes.

      I think you misunderstand cake.

It was to short and we didn't get all the stuff the trailers showed us, but it is one of my favorite games. I thought the ending was good and I love the song.

The cake is not a lie... You can see it at the end. It's very cleverly done though, you still can't be sure what was happening.
I think it's my favourite game ever. (Sort of.)

Did anyone else hear the ingredients for the cake? Check them out if you haven't.

The game was indeed short but unlike many other games nowadays, it was original and addictive.

I loved GLaDOS speech during the final fight.
      - Are you an idiot?
      - No sir, I'm a dreamer.

Meh, the promise of eating cake was a lie, but the cake itself wasn't. Anyway, why would you want to be eating it? The ingredients are listen on the monitors.

This was the most innovative and fresh game I've played in a long time. I wish games like this came out more often.

The funny thing is, Portal wasn't a mainstream game title untill Valve discovered it.

Portal was actually a Senior student project for some gaming design class (or something to that tune) and some higher-up at Valve saw it while at the college and hired them on the spot.

There is always room for innovation, but big dollar companies just go for the tried and true genres so they don't scare off the masses (Call of Duty, Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto 4). I'm not saying that those genres aren't excellent, as you can see I"ve named three great games in those specific genres, I'm just saying that big name companies are more likely to go towards those tried-and-true genres.

If you liked Portal for it's innovation and cool *First Person Puzzle* kind of attitude, I definatley suggest staying with "Mirror's Edge", another Multi-platform Valve game. Also, keep a look-out for Portal 2.

Now that I"m done rambling on about that, I'll tell you what I felt about the game.

Portal was (not to downplay others) in my opinion, very simple, and quite easy. Some of the puzzles were a tad bit odd to figure out, because you had to recall some previous gameplay mechanics, but most of them were quite simple. Am I the only who thinks that the last half of the game was ridiculously easy?

Portal can be beaten in about an hour (my best time playing casually), and I think that's a good length for this game. I don't know what will become of Portal 2, and hopefully it will not become a full-length game. I hope it is another add-on game with Half-Life 2: Episode 3. The game in itself is great as it is, and doesn't need a mainstream treatment.

Also, the cake was a lie. Sure, there's cake somewhere in some distant piped storage room, but the cake was certaintly a lie.

That was not Portal, that was Narbacular Drop, and I am certainly aware of how Valve acquired the idea and their team. Before Portal was released, I tried out Narbacular Drop, and it's a cool game. Buggy and very limited, but they had some good ideas going.

By the way, Narbacular Drop was made into freeware, after the Nuclear Monkey team split up. You can pick it up here.

You know what I mean. I didn't say that Portal was a completed project and Valve just picked it up, but the idea stemmed from that project, which is why you won't see alot of that stuff in mainstream.

      Try PREY.

The reason we don't see it in mainstream games, is because it's difficult to make support for actual portals, and combining a normal game with portals can get quite nasty.

Portal was great. It was a good puzzle/adventure, with some combat, a humorous AI and a song. Which in all is win.

There's no AI in Portal, except for the way turrets shoot you.

      AI stands for Artificial Intelligence.

      GlaDOs was an A.I.

Anyways, I have played Prey. The week it came out. It was a shooter that had some portals or two. I'm not talking about portals in specific, but innovative ideas like Portal.

GLaDOS is entirely scripted, and does not involve any randomness, except the order in which she yells at you, should you be slow.

An AI in a video game is for example computer controlled opponents, whose movements and decisions are decided in realtime.

Exactly. You could call GLaDOS an artifical AI.
