Yes; the more "popular" people on the boards are all basically good friends. After time it tends to be that a barrier appears between the "in" group and the "everybody else" group. But that's just normal behaviour for a forum.

meh.... that is just slightly on the annoying side. we come here to meet people and they all are on there own little world unacceptant of others that are willing to place their own time in to finding new friends......

I try to base my judgment of people about the content of there posts. After all, I don't really know anyone over the internet. If you have good content then I find myself responding more and more to that individuals posts. - You have eight.

Im getting the feeling that people think we are when in fact we're not...well im not..not sure abuot the others. I guess the Community chat doesnt really help our arguement now does it?

Feyd..just try to get to know the people at the boards, get a little personal, talk to them in the chat, stop by now and then to make your presence known, get a unique avatar and sig(this is may be bad, but I recognize people soley on their avatar/sig IF i dont remember their username)....also contribute in topics, post whenver you have something useful to say, your make precense known...well thats my advice...but dont feel obligated or anything ...we ARE an accepting community..its just that someone of us know one another better than others...dont take it the wrong way though

anyway ciao and see ya around

I guess it's like the same popularity thing that goes on in schools... i agree with nightowl.. anyways, I don't think people grow super strong attactments to people they talk to on forums. It's just fun and people- at least I- learn a lot from dreamviews, and along the way you can meet really cool people that you can have fun with a learn a lot from.

Yeeaaahhh... I gave up on that a long time ago. I wanted to be acknowledged on the forum before, but theres no point in trying. Besides... Does it matter what people millions of miles away think of you? Bastards.

Well this is all indirect conversation, so you can never really say you know that person. People still have slightly different personalities over the internet, or it may seem that way, because emotions are more easily expressed when youre talking to someones face, because there are factors like facial expressions, voice tone, and whatnot, but when all you see is text, feelings can be confused. This forum is most likely more friendly and "down-to-earth" than most other forums out there, but thats maybe because of what is discussed here as opposed to other forums that have different topics. As for popularity, screw that . This is dreamviews, not schoolscandals.

ok i know i am still "young" in comparison to this sites post status and i do appoligize about complaining as much as i have about this.... although from my experience in forums that is what it has been....

nightowl, tell me what do you think of my sig? it may seem a little on the philisophicle(sp) side but it is one of the things i tend to ask people....

Howetzer, although you have a good strategy(sp) it seems a little harsh. i.e. what if i just am limited in ability to vist often to get a good posting status? (i'm not but you get the point)

you see that is not my point. my point is knowing that if i go here that i will have someone(s) to talk to.... it is kind of comforting knowing that i am not the only person stuck in this pittiful world....

now i do say there are many things that make this place worth while... i just dislike the populated portions of the world .... i love the forests, my girlfriend, video games (although that is another kind of escape so i should exclude that), music, ect..... i am a solitary person that likes to communicate (yeah, a lot of sence that just made)... but i think you get the point

I like it, but to be honest i would notice you a lot more if you had a picture for a sig as combined with what you have now. Since we're on this topic, if you really want to get noticed, then get a different avatar. one thats not in the avatar gallery because there are other users here at the forum that use that same exact one and well...its hard to distinguish. dont get me wrong..i like the kupo and its nice, but its somewhat common.

many of us are willing to talk to others, comfort others, and be there for them when they/we are needed. if you have any troubles, want to vent, need advice, then post it. we are more then willing to help you out . Many of us here do do that.

      hopes that helps you somewhat

I really know what you are talking about man. I thought about it the same way as you in the beginning but then i realized its much better to have a more "relaxed" look at it. Dont have your goal set to "be the most popular guy around and get as many friends as possible". Just try to have as much fun as possible and be as relaxed as possible.

About that pic in your sig: copy the url of the site where the pic is, copy it to your signature window in your profile and write
oops, i hop that wasnt a real site

It would only seem natural to feel a sense of detatchment if your new to the forum. I know it's probally taken the elder member here a while to 'bond' and create the community they have, but that has taken much time and patience, so it hasn't been an attribute given to them freely.

I liked the post about just coming here to relax and be yourself, not with any goal to set.

I feel like an outsider, but that's all good, underdogs rock

There's something really gripping I'd like to say here, something about how being popular is a collective thing...but I can't pinpoint exactly what it is.

But anyway, to be frank with you, the chances of getting into my "oh yeah he's a member of the community" books is pretty slim, because A) There's already enough people and B) I can't remember anymore or I'll explode.

this needs to be a poll, "who feels like an outsider..."

if there are more outsiders... then doesn't that make the insiders outsiders?

heh, now i want some apple cider.

      Lmao apple cider, that rymes.

Good theory, if the so called 'outsiders' dominate the 'insiders' then yes it become the reverse. But then you lose the aspect of 'secret community' status.

yeah, but the only people losing anything are the insiders; its not as if the outsiders are part of the secret community anyway.

i guess the other side of that is, we dont gain anything really either...

hold on... isn't the point of being an insider to be part of the minority; the elite group. so having more outsiders doesn't make them insiders, it just makes them more popular.

      i'm confused.

      Good lord, not again...

Yes, we have our little "circle" of friends whom we like to talk to, and know on a higher personal level.

If you don't like it, leave, but if you stay, odds are you'll find your own little spot in the "circle".

So quit complaining, we are doing everything within our power to make you newbies feel welcome, and if you don't appreciate that, then we don't want you.
      You guys suck.

Talk about over welcoming.... this is the place! Adoptions...newbie forum for n00bs to get greeted and welcomed by veterans. My first post was a pretty dumb question(look it up if you want ) and people were nice enough to give me the time of day...Of ocurse I didnt know anybody or understand the different relationships, but it its like any community....online and off. You gotta find a groove. Just stick around and the rest follows.

I'm fairly new around here...it's been just over a month....and I have never felt excluded from anything. Sure other members have their inside jokes and little games but that doesn't bother me, and I don't know why it would bother you.

I love this place because if gives me a chance to express my opinions and people will actually read them, think about them, and form intelligent responses to them (I use the word "intelligent" loosely, j/k). I don't get that from the people that I hang around with in my daily life.

My advice would be to just find a thread that interests you and jump right in. I spend most of my time in the Philosophy section and even though a lot of people don't agree with many things I say, I tend to think that they respect them, and I respect what they have to say in return.

I forget how new you are Bradybaker. One of my favorite things on this forum is getting in discussions with you. I love having all of my beliefs challenged constantly so I can shed the weak beliefs and strengthen the strong ones.

And well put, just find whats interesting and jump in. THats what I did. I used to only post on one or two threads. And slowly Id start getting into more and more. I didnt even touch philosophy, artist corner, lounge, or senseless til much later(much to the regret of most I found myself quite at home in senseless )
