I got as far as that, but I meant connecting using Telnet will not work.

1 Open a terminal emulator (on windows just hit Win+R, type cmd and hit enter)
2 type telnet irc.darkmyst.org 6667
3 Follow the tutorial

There's also a free portable client called 'Nettalk' which works well.
