Anyone know of a place to get traditional moccasins online? Not ones with rubber soles or anything.

I love going barefoot, but I live in a big city and don't really care to step on any number of nasties around here.

I like not wearing shoes, only I never do it long enough to get calluses, so I usually cut my foot on something.

Yeah, I'm currently wearing my favorite pair of shoes ever into the ground at around the one year mark, and they're not made anymore

      http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/mens...bantrack-palms

These things give me about a +2 walking speed, +4 agility.

I might get one of the elastic one-piece shoes from the Urban Track line, but none of them have the elastic velcro strap that makes these so convenient to slip off and fit snugly back on.

They're far from traditional moccasins, but for me any leather shoe that fits your foot like a glove = moccasin.

Wow... that was a long read but very interesting

"Okay, now I know what you’re thinking: What’s my other alternative?" rofl! I loved that part.

I go barefoot all the time inside. But I HATE dirty feet and stepping on hidden glass etc, so I wear shoes outside.
I have worn these http://www.planetshoes.com/itemmatri...en&cc=Footwear for a couple years now but I'm getting aggrevated with them. I wear out the toe area in a matter of months. But I wear them year round unless I have to be out in the snow, then I grudgingly set them aside for boots.

I've noticed some foot problems with them though. I don't wear the elastic strap unless I need a lot of speed or am doing chores where they might fall off lol. But I noticed that with my right foot, I tend to raise my big toe to help keep them on. I've been getting cramps along the top/inside of my foot. So now I'm trying to wear the strap more.

The toe shoes look interesting I could never wear anything like that though because my second toe is bigger than my big toe by the entire nail.

Thankfully, for the most part, I know how to walk I'm very stealthy quite naturally because I walk softly.
But why do I want to walk up stairs and such on my tip toes?

I don't care what the article says, walking barefoot outside is 100% infeasible in a society where broken glass, rusty nails and various other health hazards are found literally all over the ground. I'd take poor "forefoot pathology" over catching Hepatitis from stepping on a nail any day.

2 Days ago, I was outside pretty much all day. I went out at about 14:00, barefoot, I walked to my school to see how my classmates were doing at the exam. (I had to go to the exam the next day) After that, me and my friend basically just walked around all day.
^has more time used for nothing than time for anything else

But anyways. Sure, the way my foot rolls (OVER ROCKS OF VARIOUS SIZES) is awesome, and feels natural. Walking through grass (AND MY FOOT BEING IMPALED BY A HIDDEN STICK) is great aswell, makes me feel so free.
So even though once in a while there will be one or two (THOUSAND SHARP) rocks laying about (EVERYWHERE), it's still great, but you may have to keep your eye on the ground alot more than before.
And my foot is basically dead now, right now I'm wearing socks inside, not because it's cold, but simply because it fucking hurts when my soles touch ANYTHING.

Honestly, I don't wear shoes to help me walk, I'm just protecting my feet from the things you simply can't avoid stepping on.
Obviously, I'm being sarcastic about walking barefoot being great - But even then, I actually do find it awesome, and I'll go outside barefooted again once my feet heal from last time I murderered them :3

It's not just bad shoe design--sidewalks are a nightmare for feet, too. I know concrete is cheap and durable, but I'd rather walk on just about anything than a flat, rock-hard surface. I almost prefer broken-up sidewalk with dirt and weeds running through it, but best of all is packed earth in the woods.

Imagine how callous peoples feet were in ancient times. Even the native Americans must have had super callous feet that allowed them to walk over anything without feeling it too much.

      Gotta build up that callous.

Don't worry, it doesn't take much time. Two weeks and your feet will hurt less. Two months and they'll hardly hurt at all.

the reason your feet hurt so much is because they weren't used to walking so much with no shoes.
It's like people who live underground aren't used to direct sunlight.
You have to acclimate yourself. You walked for (I assume) 4-5 hours with no shoes.
Start off small... a straight half hour with no shoes followed by an hour and a half. After a few days move up to an hour at a time with an hour break and so on.

That was a great article, all six pages. What I found most intriguing were these numbers:

"Epidemiologically speaking, it’s been estimated that, by age 40, about 80 percent of the population has some muscular-skeletal foot or ankle problem. By age 50 to 55, that number can go up to 90 or 95 percent.” Ninety-five percent of us will develop foot or ankle problems? Yeesh. Those are discouraging numbers—but wait. Are we talking about 95 percent of the world population, or of North America? “Those are American figures,” he says. Which makes me think, North Americans have the most advanced shoes in the world, yet 90 percent of us still develop problems? "

This is something I'll be experimenting with as I visit the park and beach more often.

Great read. But what about our athletes? They are basically the best in the world and they train for hours a day with shoes on, doing things that probably add up pretty quickly in terms of leg/ankle/foot mileage. And they seem fine.

Most of our best athletes aren't very old. Check out this quote from the article as well, page four:

"Barefoot running has been a subject of interest for serious runners for decades, at least since Ethiopia’s Abebe Bikila ran the Olympic marathon in Rome in 1960 in bare feet—and won."

Are they any good as street shoes? They do look pretty cool.

Yea definitely. I pretty much wear them wherever I go. You just have to get used to walking differently (which is beneficial). The only place I don't wear them is to bars because there's usually piss all over the floor in the bathrooms
