      I'm chicken...

I would rather say a different word instead of chicken in the thread title but today at work i had to throw out the garbage and there were 50 wasps around my head trying to take it off and fly all around me, i hate bee's etc SO MUCH! the assistant manager who is allergic to bee's went out there and threw the garbage out because i was too much of a bleep to do it, then everyone at work was calling me scared. I can't stand those MFers...it's funny for being so small and how big we are how chicken we get from something so small like a bee/wasp/hornet etc. I agreed with them im a P**** because i am and was, i hate their buzzing, stinging, flyuing around you trying to decapitate you...FFS!!! This probably belongs in senseless banter...if it does a mod can stick it there.

I once had a wasp in my ear and i poked my pointy finger inside the ear and heard a buzz and felt a wasp, i was violently shaking my head to get it the bleep out!

      A story for you, Flanders.
Once, when I was a small child I sat upon a fence.
Below this fence, were two small hornets, flying gracefully.
I thought to myself "I can totally jump down, and nail both to the ground with my feet."
So I tried, and I ended up having 3 or 4 stings on the insides of my legs.
      I ran inside, crying.

These moments are the moments that make us hate these "small" things.

Ugh. I despise hornets and German yellowjackets. Yellowjackets are just barely less aggressive than Africanized "killer" bees. Them mofos are aggressive. European honeybees, I don't mind. They don't sting unless they are pretty sure that they're about to die or that their hive is being invaded.

Bad childhood story: I was climbing a ladder when I was about six or seven, and there was a nest of yellowjackets in the corner right behind one of the rungs, and I stuck my pinky finger right into it.

Needless to say, my pinky was at least as big around as my thumb by the end of the ordeal.

I've had a few bad run-ins with bees, including one as a mere toddler which is one of my earliest memories, and I still only respect them without panicking in their presence, which is more than I can say for my little uncle or my sisters. One time I stepped right in a hornets' nest and took seven stings on the forearm, which resulted in my forearm swelling up like a mellon. That might be the last time I was stinged, though I've come in contact with a variety of bees, bumble, honey and wasp, since then.

I'm also really afraid of bees, I always avoid the fuckers, even if they aren't the kinds that sting.

I used to be deathly afraid of bees and wasps, and I've had a few run-ins with them.

Once I was riding my dirt bike, with my mom on the back of it, and a huge bee flew right into the open mask of my helmet. Instinctively, I let go of the handlebars and just started swatting at my own head, trying to get this thing out, while we were doing like 45mph. Luckily, it flew out without stinging me. We almost crashed, though, because I wasn't paying the least bit of attention to where we were going, or the fact that I wasn't even holding onto the handlebars.

Another time, I was at school and I leaned up against a basketball goal. I felt this burning pain in my back and I went over and asked someone to check out my back to see if I been poked by something. They lifted up my shirt and said there was nothing wrong. I waited for a little while and the burning got worse, so I told the coach that I was going to go to the clinic. When I went in the clinic, I told them what had happen, and they lifted my shirt to see if there was something wrong with my back. As soon as the nurse lifted my shirt, everybody in the room stepped back and gasped. I was like "What?? What?? " and the nurse said "It's still stuck in your back" and she swiped her fingers down my back and knocked down a big-ass yellow-jacket that had been hanging on by the stinger, the whole time.

Got stung twice in the head, at DeLeon Springs. I got hit once and dove under the water. Swam all the way to the other side of the spring and resurfaced, only to get tagged in the head again, as soon as I came up.

A friend of mine had one land in her cotton candy, when she was younger, and got stung on the inside of her mouth.

I think my best bee story, though, is how I got over my fear of them:

I was at an ROTC field meet, and we were having personnel inspection, being graded against about 13 other schools from the southeastern US. Now, personnel inspection can take upwards of 30mins, which is just 30mins standing there, in rank, at attention, being graded on your ability to stay still, while the Commanding Officers go around from rank to rank and inspect each individual person. Our platoon was far enough away from the judges to be heard, if we whispered to the person next to us, and I heard a friend of mind say "Greg, don't move."
Of course, I'm thinking "Wtf? I'm not moving. Shut up."
But then he said "Don't move your arm," and I felt something crawling up on it. I glanced down and there was a huge wasp walking up my arm. So in my mind I'm going "HOLY SHIT!!!!! WTF!!!!!" but of course, I can't move, because I'm standing in rank, at attention.
This bastard walks straight up my arm and Into My Uniform through the sleave.
To this day, I can't believe I didn't move. Just thinking about it now, makes my skin crawl. Haha.

But anyway, it walked around under my shirt, to my chest, and it began to buzz around, like it was getting frustrated, trying to get out. It then crawled up to my collar and flew out of the neckline of my uniform.

haha, Lezen that's exactly how I react. I have A LOT of wood spiders around my house, like 4-5 per tree. (There's like 10+ trees in my yard.) I end up stepping into them, and jumping bat, swatting at my head, body, swiping everything off if I could. I was riding the four wheeler last night and the spider hit my face...NOT a fun experience; I almost wrecked it into a tree o.o

some information: Wood spiders are a little bigger than your thumbnail.

I had to hose a couple of suspected brown recluses out of some windows at work. Normally spiders don't bother me, but thems was some scary sumbitches.

Right, and blackwidows love the dry air of Wyoming. They are everywhere. If you think they are going to be in a certain spot, i bet you they are.

I have a friend who was bitten by a brown recluse (or "Hobo Spider") and, of course, had to go to the hospital. It was in the middle of the night, but those spiders' venom destroys tissue, so luckily he didn't wait until later to go.

I'm not terrified of spiders, but I avoid them if at all possible.

As far as bees, generally if you stay calm they won't sting you, but it doesn't make them any more pleasant to be around. I hate when they buzz in your ear! Eck!

After you get stung by poisonous scorpions/stingrays, little wasps really aren't that scary. But, I understand your fear. The best thing to do is to not disturb their business, and they won't do anything. MOST OF THE TIME. Wasps can be straight up assholes, and will sting you for absolutely no reason. So, there is reason for fear. Bees are a little more friendly.

I got bit by one of these 3-4 years ago and it was fuckin hell. I never went to the hospital because I was a hard-ass, so I suffered for almost a whole week. Thought I was gonna die. I think most people would die without professional care....

      Oh God, wasps.......ugh.
I have a wasp story too. When I was 10 and my cousin was 9 we were at my great Aunt's house. She had a field area behind her house and there were some old boards covered in wild roses where the wasps made a huge nest. We were poking around out there and my dipshit cousin takes a stick and hits that nest...
There were at least 200 in there, probably more. They were everywhere, in our clothes and we tried to run and they just chased us throughout the yard.
      Got stung ALL OVER...
To this day I do not go anywhere near those bastards if I can help it.

Had an interesting encounter with a bee, two days ago. I was talking before about how I've gotten used to just not flinching/moving, when they are around, and just letting them go about their business... Well, we were on a smoke break, and standing outside in the parking lot. I was talking to a friend of mine, and this bee started buzzing around me.

My friend started freaking out and trying to wave his hands around and whatnot, and I reached a hand out and told him to be still. The bee came up to my face, and started buzzing around right in front of my eyes. I was wearing sunglasses, and I think the bee was staring at his reflection, because we just sat there, eye to eye, staring at each other, for a good 10-15 seconds, before he finally flew away.

Yeah, there was a little bit of fear there, but it was an interesting experience, and I'm glad I just stood there and let him do what he was doing.

It's an entirely different story, though, when a yellowjacket suddenly lands on one of the lenses of your glasses, as what happened to me yesterday during Band practice. Scared the shit outta me.
