Work Week... How Can You Handle It?

I'm a part-timer at McDonalds, usually working Tuesday through Saturday, averaging 17 or 18 hours a week. I'm not a food prep though. I clean the lobby during lunch hours. And don't get me wrong, I enjoy my job, but it gets so rote and routine that it's mind-numbing.

Throughout my life I have seen so many people who just absolutely despise their jobs. And I don't want that to happen. I'm working on getting into college so I can find a job I love (involving computers). But in the meantime there are going to be ones that are not my cup of tea.

Do any of you like/hate your work? How do I go about not being sick to my stomach with my work?

When it becomes routine, my mind can wander off. I guess it's a skill to help with self-motivation. Just do something that keeps you occupied. Many people socialize. If you just stand there doing nothing, then yeah.. you'll be bored beyond belief.

With regards to people hating their job... people are naturally unsatisfied with work. Why? Because it's goal is not to be something you enjoy; it's to get shit done so you can continue to enjoy the remainder of your life.

When I worked at a Wendy's I would always be zoning out, thinking about music, games, books, nature, women, guitar, school, memories... anything. I guess you could say I was tolerant of the boring position because I was never thinking about it, other than to maintain performance.

Maybe it's personal to me, but I find it hard to complain about a job when I know how much worse other people's lives are. You're not homeless. You live in a developed world without many of the dangers elsewhere. You have the income to provide what you need. You have a world of wonders and opportunity laid out before you. Appreciate it. Love yourself and understand what needs to be done to live the way you want.

I have always hated work. I realized at a young age that there was no job out there for me that I would be happy with; so college was not an option. I even quit high school and started to learn on my own. I worked maintenance jobs for ten years and now I make enough money to work only a few days per week and the rest of the time I do whatever I want. I think I have a fabulous education and I have more than twice the free time of most people. I pay for this only in lack of security (and in life such is an illusion anyway), and superfluities.

People would say I am crazy to not think about retirement or buy that 500 inch television or new car to keep up with Bob, but I don't really give a crap and get my enjoyment from non material things anyhow. Considering retirement; I will not live that long. I refuse.

There was a time last year that I lost my apartment and couldn't find a cheap enough rent for my low budget; so I simply lived in the woods for six months until I found one. I've invested much of my money in survival gear/weapons. My insurance is my knowledge of survival rather than monetary if things go wrong. I have always despised the constraints of the modern work world so this is the best setup I could come up with.
