reading outside of one's usual genres as lucid aid?

I just had a realization that I would like others' input on:

I realized that earlier this year when I was actually having some lucid dreams, I had expanded my reading horizons to books I would not usually pick up, nonfiction books mostly. I am now finally getting back to it and turning back to "Goedel, Escher, Bach" which I had started in the summer and put aside until now.

And out of the blue I remembered some book by physicist Stephen Hawking "A Brief Histiry of Time" and I realized that I had read that book when I was into lucid dreaming about 20 years ago.

The thing is that I don't usually read such books. I usually read fiction only, mostly mystery and romance novels. And actually the only times in my life that I chose to read nonfiction for fun (rather than for school or university or job) have "coincided" with my lucid dreaming.

So that made me wonder, could reading books outside of one's usually chosen genres be a lucid aid by expanding one's mental horizons, intellectual growth, new neural pathways ... Or whatever ... Could that aid in lucid dreaming?

Or is it more the opposite that my interest in lucid dreaming made me more open minded to seek out more diverse intellectual stimulation?

      What do you think?
You may say I'm a dreamer.

My wild guess would be that reading those books opened up different ways of thinking...opened up to awareness and aided in your lucid dreaming. Just a guess though and maybe someone else will chime in.
