Lightened Dream - open sourced and in need of some inspiriation

Lightened Dream is now open source: https://github.com/lucidcode/Lightened-Dream. And you don’t even have to be a coder in order to contribute; a lot of the content is in human readable files that you can edit by hand for those who will be in search of lucidity after us...

I am fresh out of ideas for new features / lucidity tools to add, so please let me know if you can think of anything: https://github.com/lucidcode/Lightened-Dream/issues.

Got your PM, that's interesting indeed. Not sure if and when I will find the time to see whether I can contribute but I will surely take a look.

Do you consider translating it into german? I think I could definitely help you, I'm not perfect at german but it's still mother tongue for me, and for all cases of doubt I know how to let technology help me. Just give me a hint how to help you translate.

Yes! Awesome, thanks. I will first have to add some code to replace the strings and then build a list of all the text that needs to be translated. Will let you know as soon as I have it.

I was having some trouble with the GitHub thing so I guess I'll put it here...

First I had a question about Lightened Dream that I didn't see covered in the user guide, along with a possible suggestion depending on the answer. I can't seem to make a character with two names to differentiate between people with the same first name on the pie charts (or for a more generic example "man" vs "old man"). Usually I just use the first letter of the last name to specify. If that's not possible now, would it be possible to implement in the future?

Also a minor bug report, it's nothing serious just slightly annoying. I notice that when I go through and create new characters, new objects, etc sometimes the next time I start up the program and look at the list it will have "New Character", "New Character 2", "New Character 9" etc. I always just delete them or change them to the name I want next but sometimes there are up to around 10 of them. Or maybe it's not a bug and it's just encouraging me to create new characters and objects!

Just wanted to say thanks for this great program, I've never seen another that comes close and it looks like you've ironed out a lot of the little kinks since the last time I played with it. The charts and graphs are definitely my favorite features. They're the main reason I started using this now (or again, I should say) instead of a regular journal app and the rest of the features are a cool bonus on top of it. If you ever decide to make an app like this for Android I'd pay good money for it. I'm pretty much imagining Lightened Dream plus a built in actigraph

Thanks! I added some code to handle categories with multiple words. And fixed the bug where the "New Character" entries doesn't get renamed fully. Let me know if it works now or if there is anything else that doesn't work as expected.

I am busy writing an Android version for Lucid Scribe as we speak.. I will see about porting Lightened Dream after that...

Wow that was fast, much appreciated! I'll give it a try when I get home from work and let you know after I've messed with it some.

That's interesting, I wasn't sure if you messed with phone apps or not. Will be sure to check that out when you release it.

So far so good. I haven't noticed any more New Characters etc popping up, and the multiple word category feature seems to be working just as I expected. That helps me out a lot, thanks again

Edit: Wanted to let you know, I saw this just now when I tried out the search feature. I typed in a name and it displayed the little graph and off to the right it had "[name]" and below that "Dreams" with numbers. I clicked the name and it asked if I wanted to add it to a category, then I clicked dreams and got an unhandled exception: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index.

I am intensively using Lightened Dream
Is there a possibility to get my Lucid Dream Count out of it? I marked them as Lucid in the Pulldown.

Thanks for using! I have added a "Dream Type Count" to the tools menu in the latest version for you. So, how many lucid dreams have you logged?

@duke396, only saw your edit now. The dreams legend is just a count and wasn't meant to be clicked on. I have disabled that functionality in the latest version to prevent others from running into that error, but you should be able to click on an existing item to open it or on an unassigned item to add it to a category.

@IAmCoder: Cool. But the latest version is not running on my system (Windows 8). Just says "Lightened Dream stopped working".

LD Count? I am just in the process to put all my dreams since 1985 into the tool. Then I will know. Something between 30 and 40 I guess.

Wow, that is a long history! Be sure to run the dream sign builder when you have everything in...

One of the graphing files went missing in the installer, sorry about that. The latest one should work - please let me know if it works now.

Just got this program installed a couple of days ago--looks really interesting, excited to get into it!

Just a quick question (sorry if there's a really obvious answer to this, I haven't played around with it much but I can't seem to find an option for it): is there a way to make the program not automatically date and sort the dream journal entry when you create/save one? I want to import entries from my handwritten dream journal and I want to keep the date, but it automatically dates as 2014->01->[January 2nd, however it'd be named] and I can't figure out how/if there's a way to move entries between directories within the program (say, if I want it to be in 2013->12). This may be a bug, but even if I go to the file location and cut and paste an empty entry into the right directories then edit the dream in the program and save it, it gets moved back to January 2nd. So far I've just been leaving it on the most recent date and then cut and pasting it to the right directory once I'm all done typing it out, but is it at all possible there's a faster way to do this? I suppose it's no big deal if there isn't currently, it's just slightly tedious.

Thanks in advance! It does look like a very interesting program--slightly overwhelming at first I'll admit, but it has a lot of possibilities and I can see it having a lot of potential for my and others' lucid dreaming journeys.

Thanks! You should be able to just type the date into the Date field below the Title field and it will move it there. Let me know if that works...

      Hi IAmCoder,

I still use your program daily. So I think about possible further developments

There are two things related I would love to see:
      - a possibility to comment the dream without the program tagging the comment. Example: I normally make a note for every dream where I was geographically when I dreamt it. I found out that my "default reality"-surrounding has clear influence on dream content. But when I note in Lightened Dream that I was in Paris when I dreamt this dream, then I don't want the program to tag the dream with "Paris" as location, because Paris wasn't part of the dream.
      - the possibility to "untag" something from a special dream. Example: The German expression for "know" is the same word as the name of a place where I once lived. Therefore every time I write "I know" in a dream, Lightened dream tags this as a location. So it would be convenient to say the software that this tag doesn't apply for this dream.

No idea how difficult this is, but it would help.

      Thanks for the suggestions!

I might add a new comment field in the next update that won't get tagged. In the mean time you can add an underscore, e.g.: "_Paris" to throw off the tagging algorithm.

I am not sure how to un-tag something... will have to think it over. The algorithm splits all the words by spaces, commas and other punctuation marks and then checks each word against the categories. You can throw it off with an underscore again for now, e.g.: "Ich wollte _wissen".

      hi,
i am using Lightened Dream but am a little confused by it. I wrote up a dream an hit refresh and got some unassigned words. Added some to the categories. Then I wrote more in the dream and hit refresh but those words didnt show up in the unassigned list.

Also, is the Character Category list supposed to be a more general name for varying elements of the dream? I noticed in the last 4 dreams I've recorded I always have a female character in my dreams but one has shown up as lady,2 as girls, and 1 as witch. Do I name my character as female and add the words lady, girl and witch to the character word list?

Is there any way to add a term of two or more words to the character word list? For example, I saw a fat man in my dreams but the only way I can add that category is by associating with fat or man not both right?

A word has to be at least five characters long to show up in the unassigned list, anything under five characters needs to be manually added to a category.

You could add lady, girl and witch to the female character word list, but if it is the same person showing up in all those dreams, she deserves to be named... may I suggest Anima? Then you can just add Anima as a character and say that "Anima appeared as a witch" or "Anima was a girl". And you can still create a character for witch, in case you dream of other witches.

You could create a character manually by clicking on New -> Character and typing "Fat Man" (without the quotes) as the title. The next time you save the dream it should list him under characters and under the character entry you should see any other dreams he has appeared in.
