      Melatonin Help

I know there are a ton of topics with the same general info, but it would take me forever to find what I need. I'm sorry if it upsets anyone that I started another new one.

After months of looking, I finally found melatonin. It also has 25mg Theanine, "a natural compound found in green tea for calming and stress relief" & B6. I don't know if that's normal since I've only found it in one store.

I haven't been able to attempt an LD since December due to working 7 days a week, but I finally have tomorrow off.

I am curious to know how many is too many to take at one time. I have been taking Tylenol PM for the past couple months to help me sleep and I have to take 3 a couple hours before bedtime when I have to get up in the morning. Otherwise, I'll take 4 less than an hour before bed whether I need it or not. But when I do have to work the next day, it's the only way I can fall asleep and I can't afford to make stupid mistake because I'm so tired. My tolerance for any medication has been incredibly high due to all the surgeries I had as a child. I was in and out of hospitals and given so many pills that most of those years were a blur. Even regular old aspirin won't make a dent unless I take 4.

The bottle says to take 1 at bedtime, but I'd like to know what would happen if I took 2. Like I said before, it's been awhile since I've attempted an LD, but I'd like to see what effect melatonin has. I've only got one night, so I would hate to waste it by taking too many or not enough.

      Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a similar situation, i have a natural high tolerance for everything. I need to take 3-4 excedrins to kill a migraine. Tylenol wont even effect it, no matter how many pills i take.

      About melatonin.

Melatonin is maybe one of the most safest supplements. You cant overdose. If you take one pill (1-3mg) that will make you sleepy, and will suppress REM sleep for the first half of the night. Taking two pills (2-6mg) has the same effect, but suppresses REM longer.

Ive taken up two 4 pills, of 3mg each, and not noticed anything.

One study had patients take 24mg of it and up to 40mg of it, with no side effects, no tolerance.
It is not recommended for women who want to get pregnant though. If taken regularly, it acts as a birth control. It can cause irregularity in your menstrual cycle.

      I hope this helps.

I know this is TMI, but as far as the women's issues, it wouldn't change a thing. I can't get pregnant anyhow.

But thank you for the info. I'll try 2 tonight and see what happens. The ones I have are 3mg.

So I tried it last night and I don't think I'll take any more.

I took it about 30mins before going to bed. It made me tired, but I couldn't stop coughing. When I finally did get to sleep, I woke up every hour. When I woke up around 7am, I had a really bad migrane. Around 10 I finally decided I wouldn't be able to sleep. Shortly afterwards, I started puking stomach acid. I tried to eat, but food just made me nauseous. My headache finally went away about an hour ago since I took 4 Tylenol PMs a couple hours ago.

I don't know if it's a coincidence or the melatonin did it, but I'm not taking any chances.

Whoa? Ive never had ANY side effects
And studies have shown that melatonin has litterally no effects unless you are allergic to it, which would be really weird because we all have it in our brain.

      I think coincidence?

Maybe it was just a coincidence, but it will probably be awhile before I try it again. Monday was just absolutely horrible.

I have always had insomnia. I started taking Tylenol PM and all that crap, then a good friend of mine turned me onto Melatonin. (He has insomnia bad also). I have a high tolerance to stuff like that, but I take 2 sometimes 3 a night and sleep fine (sometimes). But I haven't had any adverse side effects. If I go on vacation and don't bring any, no big deal. I think the stuff is a Godsend for people with sleeping disorders.

I've been taking it a few weeks and it IS definitely a REAL God send. It works like horse tranquilizer, but if I need to get up I can. Can't sleep without it.

Does it help lucidity though? Or does it just help you get to sleep? This is under the Lucid Aid section, but all I noticed is that it helps you get to sleep.

It suppresses REM for the first half of the night, giving you REM rebound in the second half of the night, therefore intense and vivid dreams, and a chance to get lucid

tried it last night, got alright results. Good amount of dreams, too many to remember. I found myself waking up about 3-4 times and remembering about 2 different dreams vaguely, but i didn't care to write them down.

      Rozerem as prescription melatonin

I've tried Melatonin and had a hangover worse than any Tylenol PM hangover ever. It lasted 2 full days. I could barely function the first day after taking it. I threw the whole thing out. Blah! Any experience with Rozerem? It's supposed to be prescription melatonin and safer.

I highly doubt that was the melatonins fault. It may have been, but that is very unlikely.

Go back and see what you have eaten that day, and any other factors that may have effects.

Melatonin is pumped out by your very own brain every night, i highly doubt that it gives you a hangover.

Ive had 20mg of melatonin, to see what would happen, and nothing happened but me getting sleepy for about 6 hours.

      No hangover, no effects.

Its a natural hormone that everybody has.

It may be a bad brand that you bought.

Oh and about prescription melatonin, thats just somebody who slapped on a different name, and made it prescription so he could pump up the price.

I take 6mgs of melatonin at nights, with no adverse effects..the best
combination I've tried recently was a product called 'Sleep MD',It 's available
here in the states. It has a mixture of time released melatonin, along with all
kinds of natural herbs, like Valerian Root.It gos for about 20 dollars for a
month's supply, and you are supposed to take only one at beddy bye.I thought
      it was a great product.

Sorry to take so long to answer, but no, none of the dreams were lucid.
I have been taking Melatonin once and a while and when i do, i usually get a good nights sleep. I make sure i take the melatonin about 30 mins to an hour before i go to bed so it can start metabolizing throughout my body, or so i am thinking so. I will say this, the largest dose of Melatonin i have taken was 12mg, with no special effect. Same dream recall i always have.

You will only have better recall if you wake up, during or RIGHT after a REM cycle.

I took 150mg of melatonin and b6 the other night, a long with playing an audio CD telling me I'm dreaming. I went to sleep at 10:30 and woke up at 12:30, after just having a lucid dream. I went back to sleep, woke up at around 4:30 and had had another lucid dream. I remembered about 4 dreams that night. I felt super tired the next day, though. And I'm not sure if it was the melatonin, B6, or the CD. Maybe a combination of all three.

      Any input?

ive taken up to 20 mg of melatonin at once. It's a natural tryptamine thats produced in your brain so I can't see how it could harm you. Also, just as a side note, it is very similair to the Dimethyl-tryptamine (DMT) in compound structure whis is beleived to be the substance behind dreams and out of body experiences. When smoked its known to cause a hell of a trip(DMT, that is).

When I took melatonin I definetly noticed my dreams were more vivid and easier to remember.

      Melatonin is nothing like DMT.

Chemically or side-effects or how it even works. They are not even related in a single category.

DMT is a hallucinogen, melatonin is a natural hormone secreted to initiate sleep.

lamers... eat it and go to bed.

jk... really it's pretty simple though. try some and go to sleep. if you don't like like enough to do it again. then don't and find something else...

personally i love it. melatonin, that is. and it really improves my dream recall and the vividness of those dreams.

yeah, I have been taking natural sleeping pills not because i can't sleep but because it contains Melatonin, 5-HTP, B6, and Valerian. and since I've started taking it(3 days ago) my dream recall jumped from one dream a night to two now. and thats a pretty big step for me considering two weeks ago, I would remember maybe one dream a month!
