      Music while falling asleep??

Does music help or hinder an attempt to lucid dream while sleeping?
I usually keep my room as quiet as possible, but I was wondering if I played music if it would actually help my sleep/lucid dreams.

And of course, when I say music, i don't mean like rap or hard rock(not that I don't like that genre), but like more soothing music suitable for sleeping.

It could help on its own, but it's a bit unlikely. However, if you were to layer in a few binaural tones or isochronic beats, you may achieve better results. There are several threads about these floating around the lucid aids section. It should be noted that these should not be used if you have seizures, epileptic problems, etc. At any rate, good luck, man!

      I use music.

But I had to experiment a little - using buds or earphones is hard - they get uncomfortable during the night.

In the end I invested in a SLEEP SONIC speaker system - they cost about 90-120$ on amazon - they are basically laytex stereo speakers that you put in or under your pillow.

I plug the unit into my Ipod.

I normally play DELTA Binaural Beats at bed time. I prefer it when these are incorporated into music. Jeffery Thompson has many recordings - some of which I find very good and very useful. My favorite of his is called "Sleepy Ocean" - and rather than music it has the sounds of waves crashing on the beach with the BB's built in somehow. It knocks me out everytime. Some of his music based ones are good also.

I create playlists that start with DELTA tracks such as sleepy ocean for the first 3 hours. Then THETA, then Theta/Alpha.

Thompson again created some good "natural sounds" THETA/ALPHA recordings. One is a rushing stream - another has a thunderstorm. These can become dream signs - the thunderstorm track I find especially gets incorporated into my dreams. If in my dream its a nice day but I suddenly start hearing thunder then I know I'm dreaming.....

I also use the alarm feature on the ipod to play a play-list. There are many lucid induction tracks out on these forums that you can download - that have music plus a voice saying "you are dreaming, perform a reality check now".....etc. I set the Ipod alarm to play the induction track 4.5 hours from the time i go to bed.

I have some "pure" binaual beat tracks I had delivered just this week. I just got this one that has hypnosis with combined Theta/Beta BB's. I havent tried it yet - might give it a go this weekend:

The thing I do recommend is the sleep sonic pillow. I put mine at the bottom of my normal pillow and turn the ipod up loud. It floods the whole pillow with sound yet my wife can bearly hear it. For full effect of the Binaural Beats you should really use headphones or sleep on you back all night to get full stereo from the sleep sonic pillow - but I still get huge value from the sound tracks infiltraing my dreams which I can then recognize.
