      Teaching Dream Characters

I had the most classic lucid dream yesterday.

I was in a room with two random people. As soon as i saw them i started to tell them how this was a dream. They didnt seem to believe me so i showed them how to do a reality check. We were all sitting there pushing our fingers through our palms and pulling our cheeks out about 10cm.

I woke up and thought that is just the most classic thing, instead of working on my own lucid powers im teaching dream characters???

      Peace Sensi.

      Cool, cool....

A lot of the time, dream characters will argue with you when you tell them it is a dream. Sometimes they can get quite upset. Sounds like you found some that are receptive to learning
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

I've never spoken to a dream character yet, but in reading other people's experiences with them, I find it truly amazing that even though you know that you are dreaming and you are really the one to create these dream characters, that they still believe it cannot be a dream? Its like on one level you have accepted the fact that it is a dream and have become lucid, yet on another level you are creating these characters within your subconscious who refuse or simply cannot accept that it is a dream. When arguing with these dream characters, are you really arguing with your subconcious or are you merely arguing with a projection of how you think these people might react if it was a real life situation.

Not sure if that made much sense, but I'd love to get other peoples take on it.

I personally think it's just your brain trying to create an accurate portrayal of other people.

in my expirience with DC's i have seen a few things,
one time i told a dc it was a dream and everything froze then went into a normal dream,

another time i told a dc it was a dream and they looked at me asif i was crazy

once i told a dc it was a dream and they just didnt belive me,

then, once a dc told me i was dreaming lol (but i was already lucid)
I guess people are not ready for the whole new world that awaits them.

I don't know, maybe it's your subconscious trying to keep you lucid.. By forcing you to argue with a DC, you're proving your points and are therefore becoming more confident that it's a dream, and increased lucidity results..

Although, as I've read from many people, arguing with DCs sometimes has the complete opposite effect.

I once told my brother in my dream i was dreaming and asked him if it felt real and he was like yea, kinda, i don't know.
And in another one it seemed that all the dream charcters got together and started flying and saying that i made them immortal and they turned into bats or something.

I had this one where I was with my friend, who I had introduced to lucid dreaming. I knew it was a dream as soon as I was in, no RC's necessary so I told him and he believed me without asking any questions at all.

Just to verify I looked up (we were in a movie theatre) to see that there was a digital clock on one of the signs above the theatres. It read something around 11:40, then I looked at it again a split second later and it was 9:20 something. I then pushed my finger through my hand just for fun to see if that RC worked for me.

I ended up meeting up with about 6 or 7 of my friends and told them all it was a dream. We were sitting around a table in the middle of the theatre discussing what we should do since we were all in a dream and we could do, well, anything.

They were all suggesting practical things like taking a plane somwhere or something like that. I reminded them that we could do ANYTHING and then the dream ended. I felt like I kinda wasted that one, since I never ended up actually DOING anything!

In any case, I've never had anyone dispute that it was a dream when I've told them. But I haven't encountered any Dream Characters while being lucid, only while dreaming regularly. Everyone I've told has been related to me or I know them.

It's probably just different for everyone, based on how easily your subconcious believes that you are dreaming. Or perhaps it's when you actually doubt yourself, and these Dream Characters are a manifestation of that doubt.

      Classic indeed.

Haha that's an interesting one Split, using your LD time to try to teach your dream friends about LDing.

Yea, I don't think its our mind trying to create an accurate image of people and how they will react, because I've met several dream characters... and they are very different from who they represent in real life.
I tend to see it in this view, all your dream characters are basically peices of you. If you ask a part of you that knows about dreaming, they will know it is a dream, if you ask a part of you thats for learning algebra for instance, they won't believe you, because it's not in their nature to understand.
I've asked dream characters many questions while LDing... most of them are pretty stupid when you get down to it. They specialize in certain subjects, but when you ask them something outside of that, they don't understand.
Whats real interesting is if you encounter yourself, The exact you, the one you see in the mirror, you'll find that that is your subconscious whole and you it/he/she knows everything that you know.
In fact I often find that it is not some random dream character that tells me I'm dreaming, but my subconscious self. It's really freaky meeting yourself, it's like meeting someone who knows exactly what your thinking and exactly what your desires are.
So far I seem to be the only one who's been able to see himself/herself in a dream and have a conversation. (excluding OBEs/3rd Person views/alternate selfs).

Most people from what I see, have never had a dream of seeing themselfs and having a conversation... It's unheard of, I have to perform a certain task in order for me to do it even, which requires me to be lucid in order to do it.

Has anyone ever encountered themselfs? had a conversation?

Talking to dream characters is one thing, but talking to yourself is a real trip.

i have to disagree, unless i'm the only acception to this, i've encountered many a dream character from shows and stuff, some of which i share no common ground with.
I have this hunch that other people we know can subconciously give us advice while we're asleep or something. And as a note; i have talked to myself in an LD before.
Why is it that when i am holding all of the cards, everyone else decided to play chess?

See you messed up there... Thats when you look at them with your head cocked a little sideways, punch them in the face and say "your a crazy sob" and walk off, steal a nearby car and drive off flying.

Then thats not what I was talking about that would be more like "shared dreaming" or "mutual dreaming". Actual people is different from the ones our mind makes up. I believe there are both made up ones and even perhaps real people we're dreaming with.

Can you elaborate on the experience when you talked to yourself? I find that rare...

I don't remember this one that much, but i guess i can elaborate a bit on it.

I was studying for a test (at least i think) that i was totally freaking out about because it was a final in my worst subject and i stayed up pretty late studying but still didn't get half of the stuff. I went lucid after i fell asleep (it a rather boring subject as well) and at first i was thinking i have to wake up, but i decided to stay asleep because since i was lucid i could just study here. I was in my room studying again and i saw someone walk by the door. They looked just like me, so i followed her.
She kept looking back at me and started looking kind of freaked out at this. So she finally looked back at me and asked something along the lines of 'why are you following me??' So i explained she looked like me, a lot, and i was kind of curious about it. Then she asked my name, so i told her, and i asked her and she told me the same thing.
(At this point i was not a member of this website, so i didn't realize how special of an opportunity this was) and we helped each other study instead of doing it by myself. Not the best way of using the opportunity...

... but i did get a really good grade on the test!

And on real people we may be dreaming with, i've been kind of thinking that. They may even be on the other side of the world so we don't realize it, or something like that. (Just haven't mentioned it before) Thought i'd throw that in.
Why is it that when i am holding all of the cards, everyone else decided to play chess?

Two such occasions that I can remember: in one, when I told the DC's that its a dream, they replied something like "oh...", a total and complete lack of interest. As if this piece of information is inconsequential. I'm not even sure if they believed me because I never got the chance to actually ask them.

The second time I told DC's it's a dream, they've started to hover and tried out things (although it seemed that they had much less control than I. Not that I had phenomenal control in that LD anyway...)
