Red face Had my first lucid last night!!!

Last night, I had only just discovered this site a few days ago, and was thinking a lot about lucid dreaming. I had been performing random reality checks for a few days and finally one payed off. I had a FA and I was in my bunk bed again. Everything was the same except that there was a light on below me. I pinched my nose and I could breathe so I jumped out of bed realizing that I was dreaming. I think tried to leave the house and found that I couldn't so instead I created some portals.

I created quite a few, except they were miniature (only the size of my hand) and in different geometric shapes. I chose the heart-shaped portal and grabbed the edges enlarging it so that I could fit through. I then walked through it and was outside my house and it was day time! I then proceeded to forget I was dreaming and went on a camping trip next door to my house with my family... But it was fun while it lasted

Does anyone have tips on remembering that your dreaming - so that I won't be lucid for half the dream and then forget that its a dream...

Ohh Lucky. I'm not sure usually how many days it takes before you can start dreaming lucidly. I made my account 2 days ago, and like you I've been thinking about Lucid dreams a lot because it sounds so cool! Plus I've been doing reality checks and things too. But I'm not sure If I'll ever get one like you... I'm not sure If just a few days is less than normal either.
And this is just a guess but maybe dreaming that your doing more impossible things will ensure you that it is not real life and make it harder to forget your dreaming. It's just a guess but I think it was a good idea.

      Right on! Congrats!

The fact that you could make portals and actually use them is exceptional dream control for your first ever lucid. I'd say you're on the right track, just keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it in no time.

I also heard rubbing your hands and touching things prolongs the dream.

Congrats with your first lucid! Creating portals in your first LD sounds pretty hard core too Actually had my first since joining only a few minutes ago (from WBTB), but same as with yours it was a short one. No problem remembering though, as I keep a dream journal. And that would be the best tip as far as I can tell, from everything I've read. There's tons of info on how to do it, for example in the Tutorials section here on DV, or on Lucidipedia, which is a really great resource especially for the WBTB method. Seems I'm not allowed to post links yet Anyway, happy dreaming!
