I wanted to share one of my lucid experiences with the community. This was my first substantial lucid dream, and it was quite a journey.

I woke up one night and I must have been in the middle of an REM period because I was very drowsy. But I had the consciousness to come up with a new idea.
As I lay back down and closed my eyes, I repeated in my head to myself: "I am dreaming. I am dreaming..."
Very soon I found myself in a town, still thinking: "I am dreaming." I then thought, "Wait, I'm not in bed any more." I did a few reality checks and I was indeed dreaming. "This is great!" I thought, "My plan worked! And I haven't woken up yet!"
This was a great achievement for me, because in all of my lucid dreams before this one, I had woken up soon afterwards.
Since I was now locked somewhat securely into the dream, I had a look around. I was in a street of brick terraced houses, and something in my mind told me I was in Paris. There was no one around.
I walked to the end of the road and looked right. There was the edge of the town, and a road passed by the end. Cars drove up and down this road, there were people walking on the pavement, and beyond that were fields. I headed over there to talk to someone.
I grabbed someone off the street and asked, "Hey, what happened here?"
It was an old woman, and she said something about a bomb. I interpreted this as why the town was deserted.
I went off for a bit, but very soon later bumped into the woman again.
"Excuse me, what's your name?" I asked.
She replied something like, "Hildred."
I then attempted to tell her I was dreaming, and the world didn't exist.
"Right, I'm going to tell you something. It might sound weird but it's true," I began. But she then tried to get away from me. I tried to pull her back and get her to listen, but eventually gave up and let her go. "Fine!" I thought.
I turned around to find someone else to convince.
I then found my person. I don't know how many of you readers are familiar with Dr Who, but there's a fellow in that program called Wilfred who's very into believing that aliens and the supernatural exist. I saw him on the street and thought, "He'll listen to me."
We met and shook hands. I started the conversation the same to how I did with Hildred. "I want to tell you something. It might sound weird but it's true..."
He was actually listening and did not try to get away. But then I accidentaly awoke myself, probably by blinking down too hard I think. I punched the bed and said "Damn!"

I drew a conclusion from this experience. I thought that maybe there's a part of your mind that doesn't want to know you're dreaming. I've named this part of the mind the 'Hildred', and similarly, I've named the part of the mind that does want to know you're dreaming the 'Wilfred'.
I just wanted to share this idea with the community. I don't know how it will be taken. Has anyone else had an experience like this before and can back up this theory?
