Anyone gone straight in from hypnogogic imagery?

I`ve only done this once,a few years ago when there was a full moon (anyone give credence to lunar and planetary influence of dreams as in intensity ect ?)and at the time it seemed like the easiest thing in the world. I was just falling asleep and I got a fairly vivid image of the street just outside my house on a sunny day.So I gently put myself into the picture in the 3rd person performing the tactile sensation of rubbing my hands together. Then whoosh - straight in - full lucidity.Detail was perfect.lasted for about 5 minutes before I lost it and woke.

I don't personally believe in the moon's effect on LD'ing. First: A lot of people have given the argument that the moon causes the tides, so why shouldn't it affect us, too, but the moon causes tides according to it's position around the earth, and the moon's phases are unrelated to that. The moon orbits the earth two or three times a day I believe, but I'd have to check to be sure, and the moon cycles it's phases once a lunar month (about 29 days), so the argument is invalid. IF the moon's gravity had an affect on us and our dreaming (which it probably does, at some level), it would happen EVERY night, because the moon orbits above us at least once a night.

Anyway, beyond that: Were you asleep before, then awoke and upon returning to sleep had said experience? Or was it immediately on going to bed? Either way, it's most likely a WILD. It's an amazing experience. Did you feel any sleep paralysis or have any audial hallucinations before entering the dream? As for the question about Hypnotic Imagery, the street most likely wasn't HI (Hypno. Imagery), because HI usually takes the form of simpler pictures, such as multi-colored, shapeless blobs floating around your mind. You probably had entered a deeper dream-state by then.

Hey Tsen, lets skip the moon thing - I don`t quite believe it myself -but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

lets see - immediately from going to bed , no prior sleep . - no sleep paralysis on that occasion or audials that I can recall.

- yes your probably right about the hypnogogic imagery - I tend to group everything prior to the onset of sleep proper as same.
I don`t recall the usual squigals, shapes and patterns from that night and the street image seemed to be the first that popped into my head and stuck with no effort to retain it.

Sorry about that little tangent on the moon, I have a problem with shutting up sometimes.

Uh, no. The moon orbits the Earth approximately once every 28 days (27.322 to be exact), which is directly related to the phases, and the tides. When there is a full moon or a new moon, then the Earth, Sun, and Moon are all in a relatively straight line, which causes more gravitational pull, and therefore higher tides.

Sorry, I should rephrase that. The moon orbits earth RELATIVE TO EARTH'S SURFACE twice a day. That's why you see it pass over you once every night. The earth's rotation plays into that. Now, the moon's gravity has an effect on a specific spot on Earth's surface directly relative to the moon's position according to that spot. And the moon moves, relative to that spot, in a full orbit MORE than once a month. MUCH MORE.

I have heard many doctors (especially psychologists) saying that moon phases influence people. They says: people lose control more often in full moon and become more sensitive in full moon. So doctors usually have more work. So maybe it has something with LD too.

perhaps the extra light around tends to disrupt people's sleep patterns.
