      Was this a WILD?

      Hey guys

      really quick running late!

Several years ago I kept a dream journal and got perfect dream recall then had 2 intentional LDs. This was around that time (and I had been thinking I wanted to OBE too). I was staying at my Dad's and he kept me up really late he was drinking whisky and getting down about stuff, and I had been drinking some wine but had sobered up. Got to bed really late (about 3am). So I went to bed, lay awake for ages and had these blurry images of this furry monster demon thing running down this back alley, past all these gardens. I was still awake, I know it. Then, I THINK I opened my eyes, I'm sure I was still awake. I saw this big serpent raise up beside the bed. It was pretty impressive - all kind of fractal and translucent, could see all it's ribs etc. Then it went away and I felt myself drift up out of my body, this was beautiful but after about 30 seconds I thought "oh shit" and came back down. Then I was just lying there awake.

None of this was intentional (although I might have intended to LD that night, but I wasn't trying to float up, OBE or whatever). It sounds like hypnagogic imagery to me? And an OBE (or a lucid dream of an OBE but I wasn't thinking "I'm dreaming"). If it was a WILD it would be based on lots of sleep rather than lots of sleep deprivation wouldn't it?

I know this was a long time ago but I can remember it like it was last night, better than any hallucination I ever had ( ) and made a significant impact on my life.

      Anyone?

I think you were seeing the real world, but the hypangogic imagery was being overlaid (this happens in "Old hag" and other strange situations).

hi guys, thanks for that! what is old hag?

no tv static, just clear as day images, and it felt like i was wide awake. I'm not sure whether I LDd later that night or not.

It's pretty horrible. Basically, you have the sensation of someone else being in the room and then all of a sudden it feels like someone is sitting on you and is trying to crush you to death. I first heard about it as a child and it scared me so much that I never sleep on my back no so as to avoid anything trying to sit on my chest. The irony being that a few months ago I was awakened from sleep and it happened to me but I actually felt like I was physically flipped over first and then felt like something jumped on top of my chest, knee first. I think it's got something to do with the fact that your body is shutting down and your immagination is getting carried away with you as you get closer to dreaming so you are creating false sensations. It sure doesn't feel false though.

Ok now you've got me really scared. the books don't say this can happen...........I thought you just meant a hangover or a stoneover or something.

so, this doesn't happen when you're intentionally trying to WILD does it?

I've never experienced it myself, but am pretty sure it is a rare thing.
Anyway, other than being scary, it cannot hurt you.
I'd like to have one just once, so I could have the experience.

pretty much scared the fuck outta me when I heard about it... but then I just thought about telling myself something like dont worry... just an illusion, wont hurt me, just relax and be happy because you're having sleep paralysis, get lucid already when I get one.

"no tv static, just clear as day images, and it felt like i was wide awake. I'm not sure whether I LDd later that night or not."

You said you opened your eyes and saw this stuff. In years past, every Friday night after a football game I would wake up in the middle of the night, and be out on the field. My bed would be on the field, and everyone else is just sort of running around and acting like they would at a practice or game. Sometimes the coaches are annoyed that i don't have all my gear on and that I'm sleeping during the game.

I would see all this while physically sitting up in bed with my eyes open. I should have taken advantage of these lucid dreams, but at the time that wasn't really my priority, I wanted sleep. I know that I was physically sitting up and seeing these strange things, because sometimes when I couldn't will it all away I would stand up and turn on the light to make it disappear.

I guess I just said that so you wouldn't be all alone.

      hey guys, thanks...

who knows why the mind would do that to itself - the old hag thing sounds well nasty, like a nightmare or something. I thought getting lucid did away with nightmares.......... Seeker you are brave, eh!

mopey, that's something else! you must have a natural knack at this, I hope you use it to the full these days! That's bizarre about having to turn on the light!
