      Yet Another False Awakening

Hey all, when it comes to waking up on the weekends, I'm lucky to hit 9:00 in the morning, I just naturally wake up around 8:00, no matter how late I go to bed. Friday night, after a rather long and far away wrestling meet, I arrived home around midnight and decided I would try and seal off my room from any light that could get through in the morning, thinking this might help me with my early awakenings. So, I stuffed some towels underneath my door and near my windows, effectively blocking out all light. I wake up to my dad on a business call at 8:30, and although this is my normal wake up time, the towels worked and I was still very tired... or so I thought. This is when the false awakening happens, because I get out of bed and check my windows, then I go try and find my dad to tell him that I am still sleeping. After searching for around 10 seconds, I then snap back to my body, still in bed, with my dad still talking! This is my third false awakening in the past two months I believe.

Most of my lucid dream experience consist of conscious false awakenings. Yes it helps a lot if you used to wake up at 8:00 and for the weekend you can oversleep. Your body will trigger more REM cycles, although shorter in duration, they are enough to have a brief lucid experience.

When you are in bed in the morning and waiting to sleep, you can try to move your body sideways mentally. By doing this, is unlikely to trigger an actual body movement and wake up. If you can feel your body loose then you probably are already in a dream. Take a big breath, stand up from your bed and start walking. For the first couple of seconds you have no vision, after a while the vision engages but it is blurry. Then the hard part is to clear the vision, with your strong will it will clear but you can also try to more to another room, this also works.

Hearing is the only sense that is always active. I can hear the car engines, the birds, the radio and my family talking in the kitchen (they wake up early in the weekends) and when I become lucid I just go to the kitchen and they are still talking (although I cannot see them clearly).

I do not bother interacting with people in lucid dreams, they always stare at me when talk to them, rarely answer to my questions and most of the time they don’t have anything interesting to say.

Try to have a schedule for what to do when become lucid. It is very difficult to think clearly when lucid, the borders between lucidity and unconscious sleep are very fragile. Sometimes you may alternate between lucidity and sleep because you are still tired. When I become lucid my schedule is to try to fly (reaching a fighter jet speed and feeling), my next mission is to fly insanely fast to see that will happen (I heard that the scenery start to scatter).

Okay, I will try out what you've said, I've something similar posted on here before and this seems to make sense.

False awakenings can be annoying. Most of mine usually occur at the end of a lucid dream. There seems to be some part of your mind that knows the dream period is about to end so it begins to prepare your mind for waking up and performing your morning routine.

One thing I've found helpful is to make it a habit to do a reality check every time you wake up (or think you've woken up). Once I've made this habit I have had very few false awakenings.
