      natural ability to lucid dream?

i went looking for information on dreaming today after having a LD where i gained control of the dream. in the dream i soon woke up after getting control, which reminded me of every other time ive tried taking control of a dream. so, i got frustrated and decided to try and find info on how to keep control of dreams for more than just a few moments.

after reading this site, and some other tutorials, and some of the forums, it seems that most people dont ever lucid dream. and it sounds like these people have to practice until they can have their first LD!? this surprises me, since ive been realizing im dreaming my whole life. my dream recall isnt any good, but plenty of times when i remember dreams, i remember knowing it was a dream. now i usually just LD and roll w/ the dream. but sometimes, even since i was a little kid, i have gone lucid in nightmares and forced myself to wake up. this works the majority of the time and i wake up and catch my breath

so what im wondering, am i really in the minority by being able to realize when im dreaming?

Yeah, I'm not sure if you're in a minority, unless it is a very Large minority.
I've been able to LD for as far back as I can remember. I used to do the same thing, look for a way out of a nightmare. I think the fear you feel in a nightmare, especially when you are young, gets your mind in survival mode so you are alert enough to Know you are in a dream and the only thing you can think about is how to get out of them. Now my nightmares are some of the best ways of inducing lucid dreams, because my first question when something nightmarish happens is "Wait, am I dreaming?!"
I've met a lot of people who have been LDing since they were young. A lot of them don't even know what LDing is until I bring it up, and they are like "Whoa there is a term for that? I just thought I was weird!"
Hehe. But it is a good thing because now that you are comfortable with it, you can start studying it with a higher appreciation and more ease than a lot of others.

I've be LDing as far back as I can remember also. I never relized what I was doing though until one day I had a bad nightmare, when I was like 5 or 7, and my mom told my to try to control it (I'm a dork, I never thought of trying to control my nightmare's when they were lucid because I was to busy being scared) but after that I took control. When I was a teen I found that the best way to break a strong nightmare was to focus on what I'd like to do with the girl I had a crush on at the moment, so I could go strait to a "Good Dream" I must admit though, that some times I turn deeper into my nightmare's and shift them to a horror movie style, so I end up the big hero yea me! After that the nightmare goes a way never to return, I assume because I played it out mostly (just changed the ending a bit.)

      Lucid dream

"make of dreams what you will"

Yeh I have always been able to LD but my sisters could not.
I could do it alot more when I was little but I guess I just didn't feel the need to dip into it much as I got older but now I am starting to again.

I don't know if this is common or not but I can have a dream wake up from it and then go back in and see it through. I only do it in rare dreams like some ones that feel famililar to me such as reoccuring dreams.
      It can be quit fun.

      Any one have same experience.

Yup. That is a rendition of WILD. (Wake Induced Lucid Dream)
You go back to sleep with the intention of reattaining the dream you left off with. The reason that this is possible, due to popular study, is that once you wake up in a later REM cycle it is much easier for you to fall back asleep directly into a dream. And, being easier, it is also more likely that you will be able to carry on your conscious thought into the dream. So even if you woke up after a period of not dreaming, (excuse me..not Remembering your dreams, because you were more than likely asleep long enough to be dreaming anyway) falling back asleep into a more intense REM cycle than you started with at the begining of the night makes it easier for you to carry your conscious mind into a dream.
If you are already good at that, you are a bit above the rest when it comes to easy access to lucid dreams. Don't lose that! 8)

I think every single human being is a natural in a sence. Its like language, our minds are wired for it. SOme people just pick it up very young and learn to use it, whiel others neglect it becase they are never relaly told about it. But it just helps when people start off Lucid dreaming ebacse you can excell in the practice quicker. As for "Non-Naturals", They just have to work harder so ther minds will become used to doign what they have a natural abilty to do.
