      I can't not fly!

Does anyone have difficulty trying *not* to fly?

To put it shortly, I had a lucid dream last night, and when I realised that I was dreaming, I did the natural thing and started to fly. But then I remembered that I had intended to see if I had a dream guide and try and meet my dream guide, but I couldn't get back on the ground. I managed to fall to the ground a couple of times, but I bounced off the ground and back into the air again. Other times, I would swoop just above the ground and then float back up again. It's kinda feels like gravity gets all screwed up for me.

Does anyone have any tips on how to stop flying once starting? Anyone else had this problem? It seems that walking normally is harder for me than flying in my lucid dreams!

(I posted a full report of the dream in my journal; Dream 024: "Above the Forest" if anyone is interested)

Hmm.. I've never had that problem. But maybe you could manufacture some "gravity boots" or "velcro shoes" or something that would help you stick to the ground?

      Stopping the flight

When I first became aware of my flight skills while dreaming, I too had a hard time figuring out how to land. The thing that's worked best for me is pointing my feet towards the ground (when I can see it) and just thinking the simple thought of "down". I usually make a nice smooth landing. Good luck getting grounded
Don't worry about what you can't do. Do what you can, and let people judge for themselves.

Lmfao. My anti-gravity problem is a little different.
Flying is kind of hard for me, usually, but I've had many cases where I did just fine. My problem comes when I dance in my dreams. I dance a lot in waking life, and one thing I'm good at is floorgliding. Well, when I start floorgliding in a dream, and I get a real smooth flow going on, I find that I can't stop. Lol. I start slipping around on the floor like I'm floorgliding on ice, and many times my feet will slowly begin to ascend while I'm floorgliding and I'll start gliding up into the air and not being able to pull myself back down on the floor again.

It seems that when people manage to achieve flight, but have difficulty maintaining it, its often due to a though like "I can't be flying! Gravity is pulling me down and nothing is holding me up!" Perhaps thinking something like this would help you to stop flying. Anything, really, that makes you question how you're up there, might do the trick.
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

Try flying into a pool of water like a pond or lake. Once you get in the water you most likely will not be able to fly without trying. I know it's that way for me at least.

      ROFLMAO! That's hilareous! XD

*laughs for several hours* Ah...sorry. Just the thought seemed incredibly funny to me, heh.

I was under the impression that absolutely anything could be done at will in lucid dreams...how odd...

Well, for the most part you can do anything; it's just limited by your imagination and control.

As for trying to stay on the ground, I agree with whoever said to think "down" but you'd have to be careful not to keep going down. You could also try landing in a tree and holding onto the branches until you become more stable, or you could try tying something heavy to your feet/ankles. Or you could always fly to your DG and ask him/her to help you out... or you could fly together. I've always wanted to fly with someone.

Ah... I need to update my profile. Unfortuntely my placement ended and I moved back to the UK at the beginning of September.

Anyways, I seem to have made some progress with landing. I haven't really had any problems since, although it seems to be more dependant on luck than anything. Also I seem to have far less lucid dreams in the UK than I did in the Netherlands.

In my eperiences with troubles involving flying I usually try to look at it a different way such as like swimming. Swimming solves most of problems be it stability, trouble starting, And control. So try not to think of it as flying think of it some other way.

      Dear MartinB

I've found that flying provides the transition to whatever special dream has been in store for your Lucid Moment. Ironically, I found that out by trying to ever fly higher, faster and farther. I would be discouraged when I would eventually run out of gas, or whatever, and lose altitude and land. It finally occurred to me that I was landing into some pretty good dreams.

Anyway, when you have done enough flying, you will be reeled in.

Regarding a Dream Guide or Spiritual Guide.... Have you already established a relationship with a Guide? You know, I really think that Spiritual Guides are more like Cats than Dogs. They come when they are interested, and not just because they are called. I've had many encounters with various guides, but can't say that I ever was able to summon one. They always seem to have come of their own initiative. Which is not to say that there is no benefit in trying to evoke a Guide. Again, as like Cats, I think it helps to get their attention, and then I suppose they remain close by for a while and watch.

I really am in favor of different sorts of Spiritual Quests. Try to find challenges within your dreams. In these activities it will give you an opportunity to show your Guides just what kind of a Spirit you would make.
