      Funny thing my watch did.

Had a lucid dream recently. Unfortunately I didn't HILD the night before, so I barely remember anything except what my watch did.

In the dream, I glance at my watch, and it's going crazy, changing numbers. It's a digital watch, and the time was changing every half second to random times and random numbers. At one point the numbers had so many digits that it spilled off my watch and was changing in thin air beside the watch. It was almost like a stop watch, but there was no sequence. It was just all random times and random numbers.

I think in the dream "Ok, I get it, this is lucid!"

      I woke up so amused.

That's very common. Anything that has printed text or numbers will often change. It's good that you recognized that as a dream sign, but keep that in mind, too, if you are reading something to check it again and see if it changes.

For me, personally, my watch will be legible, but if I look at it again the time will be very, very different.

In my lucid dreams, when I look at my watch that's usually what will happen--it will change when I look at it again. Or, as was the case a couple of times, it will show a time inconsistent to what time it appears outside, and I will notice something strange, consider it, and become lucid.

My most interesting dream so far involving my watch was a LD where I spent a few minutes playing with it to see how accurately it was depicted from its real life operation (it's a Timex Ironman Triathlon watch with a bunch of stopwatch features, timers, alarms, alphabetic display prompts, etc., so it's rather complex). It functioned mostly normal, with subtle oddities that i noticed:

      * It was a slightly different color or style from in real life, which (combined with a few previous unrelated strange occurrences) made me lucid
      * Each time I looked at it, the time was different.
      * I kept looking at it to see if there was a pattern. I don't remember if there was, but I think the hour 17 (5 PM in 24-hour format, which I keep it in) came up more than once.
      * I tried to make the time show a number I was thinking of, but couldn't. However, when I wondered if it would ever show an invalid time (e.g., minutes above 59), the minutes were 60 next time I looked at it.
      * I went to stopwatch mode, and it went into lap/split mode right when I pressed Start, rather than the second time I pressed Start.
      * The stopwatch functioned normally for an entire 10-20 seconds before acting strange. Then it skipped seconds by 10s or 11s.

I was going to check the other watch modes, but for some strange reason, I don't remember what happened next. I just remember moving on to doing something totally different. I've had that happen in LDs a few times, too. I don't know if I forgot what happened next, or if the scene suddenly changed and I didn't notice it.

Same exact watch I have. When I have more LD's, I'll check out what works on the watch too.

I have a very similar experience. In the dream, I looked at my digital clock and found out that digits were randomly changing at a high speed (maybe 10 changes/second). Moreover, the clock was gradually becoming transparent.

sounds fun, the numbers spilling over, lol. i frequently have similar experiences when i look at a watch in LD's or especially when I try to use a telephone! you should RC when you look at your watch and hopefully you'll incorporate that in your dreams and it could be a dream sign, i did that with the phone 8)

A couple of lucid dreams I had recently involved clocks and texts, so I feel obliged to reply again. I wish my lucid dreams were about something different from time to time.

This time, my digital clock showed 15:00. The hour digits remained at 15, however the minute digits increased quite quickly to 97.

Then, I took a piece of paper with some text printed on it. The text seemed to be very clear and easy to read, but it made no sense at all. It went something like:

      "Hgfdgkld bmlreiklfd fdsfjkls."

Afterwards, I grabbed a pencil and scribbled a word on that paper. I was surprised I was able to read that word, and it didn't change. However, the handwriting barely resembled mine. In fact, it looked a little bit like schwabach.

Then I started spinning and woke up. So it goes.
