      Playing the piano

I am a keen pianist in real life, so I decided in last night's lucid dream to go down to my piano and play for a bit. I found some peices of music that I'd never seen before so I sat down and played them. They were pretty simple, 4/4 time, just a simple little tune with a left hand harmony.
When I woke up I realised that my mind had created that peice of music just like that! What astonished me more was that I could read the music perfectly in the dream, and play the piano as if it was for real.
Anyone else had an experience like this?

      i wish

i was in a lucid, and went to play the piano, except it was half as wide, and the keys were at shoulder height.

there was a suitable chair i kept jumping up on, but it would sink as soon as i was on it, time after time. i tried to change the piano to normal size mentally, but couldn't

its high on my list of things to try though...i play piano, and would love to play some of my pieces and alter the timbre as i play (sort of like a real-time synthesizer in my head).

cool experience especially as there was actual sheet music your dreaming mind wrote for you. ..

did you remember the tune when you woke up?

      that's pretty fucking cool man

I've been wanting to try something musical in an LD, so maybe I'll take a break from carnal pleasures and create something for a change

so do you remember the music? like can you dictate it and/or play it while awake?

      I remember the basic tune...

The right hand repeated this little melody:
      - - F ,E ,D, A ,B - - D, E ,F ,E, D, A ,B - -
With a harmony consisting of two chords:
      A C F and G B D
The ACF chord was held while the first four notes (F E D A) were played, then switched over to GBD for B--DE, then back to ACF for FEDA, and finally back to GBD for the final B.

Hope that made the least bit of sense...

Pretty intresting dream. I just played the tune with my piano and it's pretty catchy.

your dreaming mind can compose pretty well played around with your tune for about ten minutes...

      Lucid piano

I once played the piano in a non-lucid dream years ago, but I remember it very clearly as I played like a god! (WAY better than in real life). I was thundering out Liszt-like stuff, and it was great.

I’ve played twice in lucids, but it was never that much fun. The first time was without a piano: I just sort of played in mid-air, and a far-away, small sound was indeed produced (some Mozart, I think). Nothing special. In a recent LD, (quote from dream journal):

I then noticed a grand piano next to me, so I sat a played a tune (playing the piano in a dream has been a secondary goal for a while now). I randomly play, and the tune that comes out is the Star-Spangled Banner! A couple of people are listening, without great enthusiasm.

I wish I could do the Liszt-virtuoso thing again though – it was even better than flying!

"And if in our sleep and dreams we perceive, more distinctly than in the day-life, signs of the highest beauty and the purest bliss, - should we not then give them our closest attention?"

I had a lucid dream a while back when I too sat down at a piano to read the music. i remeber thinking that I had to remember it when I woke up. I woke up remembering some of it. Its quite a wierd tune. It sounds dream-like to me. I want to do the same thing in my next lucid.

Not exactly, but years ago when I was practicing violin, I dreamt I was on stage at a Bob Dylan concert and I was permitted to do a solo for a song... well I suppose it was an original. Then another time I played along with Carly Simon in concert, only then I was on keyboard, and then another time it was playing along with The Who, but it was long ago and I forget whether I was on guitar (I suspect not) or keyboard (which I have put more practice into).

There were a few dreams where I actually say down and wrote a song from the ground up. I can't remember the melody though.

Other few times I've had this original popular music play in a background or during the HI state. Not only was it original, but it was REALLY good music (like Hit potential music ) One of these such background songs was by a group called "The Gigantics/The Gargantuans" (in my dream)

Another song happened during HI, and it was called "Got a hold on you" sung by a female singer. I tried to remember the melody, but by the time I woke, it was forgotten.

The only dream I can recall the music from was this one where I was watching the musical Rent. My brain made up this really gorgeous opening number, and I made a MIDI of it. It was for piano and a choir. This song was called "Through the years"..if anyone is curious about it, I can send the MIDI.

      awesome

      that's fucking brilliant!
I started playing the piano a year ago and I can recall one dream where I played and I definitely had better ability in my dream than I did in real life. I've written songs via guitar/vocals in my dreams and I must say it's a great gateway.. because you can almost choose your distractions if you are lucid. anyway, I (and i'm sure the rest of us) would love to hear the tune you wrote, so if you can record it post it up here!
